Zuhr time begins at midday
Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to offer the Fajr prayer at such a time that each of us could recognize the person sitting next to him. In it, he would recite between sixty and one hundred verses. He used to offer the Zuhr prayer when the sun had just declined (from its zenith), and the Asr prayer at such a time that one of us could go to the outskirts of Madinah and return, but the sun would still be shining brightly. The narrator (Abu Minhal) says: And regarding Maghrib, I forgot what was said. And as for delaying the Isha prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not mind delaying it up to one-third of the night. After that, the narrator said: up to half the night.

When does Asr time begin?
The hadith regarding the times of prayer from Sayyiduna Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) has been mentioned earlier (see the previous hadith, in which the time of Asr is stated), and in this narration, while mentioning Isha, (Abu Barzah, may Allah be pleased with him) says: "And they used to dislike sleeping before the Isha prayer and talking after it." (And then the entire hadith is narrated.)

Then a person would go to Awali (the outskirts of Madinah) and reach those people at a time when the sun was still high, and some places in Awali are four miles or close to that from Madinah.

Sin of deliberately missing Asr prayer
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that on a rainy day during a battle, he said: "Pray the Asr prayer early, because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Whoever misses the Asr prayer, surely his (good) deeds are lost.'"

Virtue of Asr prayer
Sayedna Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we were with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) when he looked at the moon and said: "Indeed, you will see your Lord just as you are seeing this moon. You will not feel any difficulty or trouble in seeing Him." Therefore, if you can avoid being overpowered (by Satan) regarding the prayers before sunrise and before sunset, then do so. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) recited this verse: "So glorify your Lord with His praise before the rising of the sun and before its setting."

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Some angels come to you in succession during the night and some during the day, and they all gather at the Fajr and Asr prayers. Then those angels who have stayed with you during the night ascend (to the heavens), and their Lord asks them, although He knows best about His servants, 'In what condition did you leave My servants?' They say, 'We left them while they were praying, and when we arrived to them (then also) they were praying.'"

Catching one rak’ah of Asr before sunset counts as full prayer
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When any one of you gets one rak'ah of the Asr prayer before the sun sets, he should complete his prayer, and when he gets one rak'ah of the Fajr prayer before the sun rises, he should (also) complete his prayer."
