Prophet said the deceased may be punished by relatives' wailing if it is their custom.
Narrated Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): We were accompanying the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at the funeral of his daughter (Sayyidah Umm Kulthum, may Allah be pleased with her), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting by the grave. He (Anas) said: I saw that the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) were shedding tears. Then Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: (When the grave was prepared), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Is there anyone among you who did not have intercourse last night?" So Abu Talhah said: I am (that person). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You go down (into the grave)." So he went down into her grave.

Ameer-ul-Mu'mineen Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The deceased is punished because of the weeping of his relatives over him." After the martyrdom of Ameer-ul-Mu'mineen Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), this matter reached Umm-ul-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), so she said: "May Allah have mercy on Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). By Allah! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not say that a believer is punished because of the weeping of his relatives, rather the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Allah increases the punishment of a disbeliever because of the weeping of his relatives.'" And after this she said: "The Qur'an (this verse) is sufficient for you: 'No bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another.' (Surah Al-An'am: 164)" __QUR_N__ __XREF_N__ __REF_N__

Wailing over the dead is disliked.
Sayyiduna Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Lying upon me is not like lying upon any one of you. Whoever lies upon me should find his place in the Hellfire." And I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever wails over someone will be punished because of that wailing."

The Prophet's sorrow for Sa'd bin Khawlah
Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to come to visit me in the year of the Farewell Pilgrimage because of an illness that had become severe for me. So I said,“You see the condition of my illness, and I am a wealthy man, and after me, I have no heir except my only daughter. Should I give two-thirds of my wealth in charity?”The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,“No.”I said,“Half?”But the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,“No.”I said,“A third?”The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,“A third, and a third is still a lot. It is better that you leave your heirs wealthy than to leave them poor, begging from people. And whatever you spend seeking the pleasure of Allah, you will be rewarded for it, even the morsel you put in your wife’s mouth.”I said,“O Messenger of Allah! Will I be left behind (in Makkah) after my companions?”The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,“If you are left behind and do good deeds, your rank and status will only increase. Perhaps you will live a long life so that some people (i.e., Muslims) will benefit from you and some people (i.e., disbelievers) will be harmed by you. O Allah! Complete the migration of my companions and do not turn them back (i.e., do not let them die in Makkah). But poor Sa’d bin Khawlah.”(The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, expressed sorrow for him) because he died in Makkah.

Prohibition of shaving the head during calamity
`Sayyiduna Abu Musa (Ash'ari) (may Allah be pleased with him) once became seriously ill, and (one day) he fell unconscious, and his head was in the lap of a woman from among his relatives, and she began to weep. Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) did not have enough strength to stop her. Then when he regained consciousness, he said: "I am free from that person from whom Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), declared himself free. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) declared himself free from the woman who wails loudly in grief, shaves her head, and tears her collar or garment."

One who sits in grief showing signs of sorrow
Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) received the news of the martyrdom of Zaid bin Harithah, Ja’far, and Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with them), he sat down. The effect of grief was visible on his face, and I was watching through a crack in the door. Meanwhile, a person came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned the women of Sayyiduna Ja’far (may Allah be pleased with him) and their weeping. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to stop them. Accordingly, he went and stopped them. Then he came again to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said that they are not listening. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Stop them.”So he went and stopped them. Then for the third time, he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said,“O Messenger of Allah! They have overpowered me, they are not listening to me.”Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Go and put dust in their mouths.”

One who does not express grief to others during calamity
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) had a son who fell ill and passed away. Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) was not at home at the time; he had gone out for some work. When his wife (Umm Sulaym) saw that the child had died, she bathed him, shrouded him, and laid him in a corner of the house. When Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) came home at night, he asked, "How is the boy?" His wife (Umm Sulaym) replied, "He is at peace, and I hope he is resting comfortably." Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) thought she was telling the truth. So Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) spent the night with his wife. When morning came, he performed ghusl and was about to go out when Umm Sulaym informed him that the boy had passed away. Then he performed the morning prayer with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). After that, they informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of what had happened between them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I hope Allah will bless you both in this night." One of the Ansar (Sufyan says from me) said: "I saw nine sons of both of them, all of whom were reciters of the Qur'an."

The Prophet's words on being saddened by the loss of his son Ibrahim
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we went with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to Abu Saif the blacksmith, and he (Abu Saif) was the foster father of (the Messenger of Allah’s son) Sayyiduna Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took Sayyiduna Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him), kissed him, and placed his blessed face upon him. Then after that, we went to Abu Saif’s house and Sayyiduna Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him) was in the throes of death. The eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) became filled with tears. So Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him,“O Messenger of Allah! (Do you weep?)”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied:“O Ibn Awf! This is a mercy.”Then he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wept more and said:“The eye weeps and the heart grieves, but we do not say except that which pleases our Lord. And O Ibrahim! We are greatly grieved at your separation.”
