Mukhtasar Sahih Bukhari
Sale of a slave who is a fornicator.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When a slave-girl commits adultery and it is proven against her, she should be punished and not just reprimanded. If she commits adultery again, she should be punished again and not just reprimanded. Then if she commits adultery a third time, she should be sold, even if it is for a rope of hair."
Can a city dweller sell for a villager and advise him?
Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not meet the caravans bringing grain on the way, but let them come to the town, and no townsman should sell for a (Bedouin) outsider." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) was asked, "What does it mean that no townsman should sell for an outsider?" He replied, "It means that he should not act as a broker for him."
Prohibition of meeting incoming caravans before they reach the market.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "None of you should sell over the sale of another, and do not go forth to meet the goods (of traders) until they reach the market (and are sold there)."
Selling grapes for grapes and grain for grain.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the sale of Muzabana, and Muzabana is to sell dried dates by measure in exchange for fresh dates, and to sell fresh grapes by measure in exchange for dried grapes.
Selling barley for barley.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Malik bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that he needed change for one hundred gold dinars. (He says that) Sayyiduna Talha bin Ubaidullah called for him and both of them discussed the matter until he agreed, and he began to turn the gold dinars over in his hand. After that, he said, "Wait for a while (O Malik bin Aws), by Allah! Do not leave Talha until you have taken the change from him (because) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Selling gold for gold is usury except when it is hand to hand...' and he narrated the entire hadith which has already been mentioned before."
Selling gold for gold.
Narrated Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not sell gold for gold except equal in weight (i.e., give as much gold as you take back), and (similarly) do not sell silver for silver except equal in weight. But you may buy and sell gold for silver and silver for gold as you wish."
Selling silver for silver.
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not sell gold for gold except equal in weight, with neither side being more or less; and do not sell silver for silver except equal in weight, with neither side being more or less; and do not sell (gold or silver) with one side being cash and the other deferred."
Selling dinar for dinar on credit.
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says that exchanging dinar for dinar and dirham for dirham (in equal amounts) is permissible. It was said to him that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) does not hold this view (i.e., he permits selling with an increase or decrease). So Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said that I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Did you hear this from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) or did you see it in the Book of Allah? Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: I do not say anything from either of these two, and you know the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) better than I do. However, Sayyiduna Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) informed me that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Riba (usury) is only in deferred payment."
Selling silver for gold on credit.
It was asked from Sayyiduna Bara bin Azib and Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with them) about (currency exchange business). Each of them said (about the other), "He is better than me (ask him)." After that, both of them said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade selling gold for silver on credit.
Sale of muzabana (uncertain sale of fruits).
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade selling fruits until their ripeness becomes apparent, and (forbade) selling dates on the tree in exchange for dried dates. Then he said that Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) informed me that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) later permitted the sale of ‘Ariyyah (dates on the trees) in exchange for fresh or dried dates, and did not permit it in any other case. (The meaning of ‘Ariyyah is that the fruit of a tree is given as charity to a poor person, then if his coming to the orchard causes inconvenience, the fruit of that tree is bought back from him by estimation.)
