What leaders conceal from booty is theft.
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin ‘Umayrah al-Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:“If we appoint any person from among you to a position, and then he conceals a needle or anything more than that, it is embezzlement (ghulul), and he will bring it with him on the Day of Resurrection.”Upon hearing this, a dark-complexioned Ansari man stood up—as if I am seeing him now—and said,“O Messenger of Allah! Take back your position from me.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“What happened to you?”He replied,“I heard you say such-and-such (i.e., that even a needle will be held accountable for).”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“I say now: If we appoint anyone to a position, he should bring everything, whether little or much. Then, whatever he is given, he may take, and whatever he is not given, he should refrain from. (In this case, there will be no accountability.)”

About gifts to leaders.
Sayyiduna Abu Humayd Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed a man from the tribe of Asad, who was called Ibn al-Lutbiyyah, to collect the charity and zakat from Banu Sulaym. When he returned, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took account from him. He said,“This is your wealth, and this is a gift (which people gave me).”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Why did you not sit in your father’s or mother’s house so that your gift would come to you, if you are truthful?”Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us, and after praising and glorifying Allah, he said,“I appoint one of you to a task from among the tasks that Allah has given me, then he comes and says, ‘This is your wealth and this is a gift that was given to me.’ Why did he not sit in his father’s or mother’s house so that his gift would come to him, if he is truthful? By Allah, none of you will take anything unlawfully except that he will meet Allah on the Day of Resurrection carrying it on his neck. I will surely recognize some of you who will meet Allah carrying a camel that will be grunting, or a cow that will be mooing, or a goat that will be bleating.”Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands until the whiteness of his armpits could be seen, and he said,“O Allah! Have I conveyed (Your message)?”(Sayyiduna Abu Humayd [may Allah be pleased with him] says:) My eyes saw this and my ears heard this.

Prophet took pledge under the tree not to flee.
`Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that on the day of Hudaybiyyah, we were one thousand four hundred men and we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was holding your (peace and blessings be upon him) hand under the tree of Ridwan, and it was a samurah tree (samurah is a wild tree that grows in the desert), and we pledged allegiance to you (peace and blessings be upon him) on the condition that we would not flee, and we did not pledge allegiance that we would die.

Sayyiduna Salim bin Abi Al-Ja'd says: I asked Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) about the Companions of the Tree, how many people were they? He said: If we had been a hundred thousand people, (the well there) would have sufficed us (because by the supplication of the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم , its water had greatly increased). We were fifteen hundred people.

Pledge of allegiance at death.
Yazid bin Abi Ubaid says: I asked Sayyiduna Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him), "On what did you pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Hudaybiyyah?" He replied, "We pledged allegiance to death."

Pledge to hear and obey as much as possible.
`Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that we used to pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to listen and obey, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: Say also, "As much as I am able." (This was the compassion of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for his Ummah, that if something could not be done, they would not be sinful for not doing it.)

Obeying in all matters except clear disbelief.
Junadah bin Abi Umayyah says: We went to Sayyiduna ‘Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) during his illness. We said: May Allah grant you health. Narrate to us a hadith from which Allah may benefit us, and which you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called us and we pledged allegiance to him, and among the covenants he took from us was that we pledged allegiance to listen and obey, in pleasure and displeasure, in hardship and ease, and even when our rights are denied, and that we would not dispute the authority of those who are worthy of it, except if you see clear disbelief for which you have proof from Allah.

Testing believing women who migrate before accepting their pledge.
Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that when Muslim women used to migrate, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would test them according to this verse:“O Prophet! When believing women come to you to give you the pledge that they will not associate anything with Allah, nor will they steal, nor will they commit adultery... till the end”(Al-Mumtahina: 12). Then, any woman who acknowledged these matters would, in effect, acknowledge the pledge (i.e., the pledge would be complete). And when they would acknowledge with their tongues before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he would say,“Go, I have taken your pledge.”By Allah, the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never touched the hand of any woman; rather, he would take the pledge from them only verbally. Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not take any pledge from women except what Allah had commanded, and the Prophet’s palm never touched the palm of any woman; rather, he would only say it verbally, and when they acknowledged, he would say,“I have taken your pledge.”

Obedience to the ruler.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever obeys me has obeyed Allah, and whoever disobeys me has disobeyed Allah. And whoever obeys the ruler (whom I have appointed), then he has obeyed me, and whoever disobeys him has disobeyed me.
