Prohibition of making nabidh in dabba’ and muzaffat vessels.
It is narrated from Zadhan, he says: I said to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), tell me about those things among the drinks from which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade. Explain them in your own language and then clarify them in our language, because your language is a bit different from ours. So he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade (making nabidh) in hantam, that is, earthen jars, in dubba’ (gourd vessels), in muzaffat, that is, pitch-coated vessels, and in naqir, that is, vessels made by hollowing out date-palm wood. And he commanded that nabidh be made in water skins.

Permission to use all jars except oily ones.
`Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade making nabidh in certain vessels, the noble Companions submitted that not all people have access to the vessels in which making nabidh is permitted. So, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allowed making nabidh in all vessels except for the muzaffat, that is, the oil-coated pitcher.

Covering vessels.
Sayyiduna Abu Humayd Sa‘idi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I brought a bowl of milk from Naqi‘ to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), which was not covered. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why did you not cover it? (If you had nothing to cover it with,) you could have placed a stick across it. Abu Humayd (the narrator of the hadith) says: We were instructed to tie up the water skins and close the doors at night.

Cover vessels and tie the mouth of water skins.
Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When night falls, or he said: When you enter the evening, keep your children inside (the houses), for at that time the devils spread out. Then when a part of the night has passed, let them go, and mention the name of Allah and close the doors, for the devil does not open a closed door. And mention the name of Allah when tying the mouth of your water skins, and cover your vessels, mentioning the name of Allah. (If you do not find anything to cover the vessels except to place a stick across them in width, then do so), and extinguish your lamps.
