Allah’s saying: "Whoever kills a believer..." (Tafsir An-Nisa)
Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Jubair says that I said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), "Can the repentance of one who deliberately kills a believer be accepted?" Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "No." I recited to him the verse from Surah Al-Furqan: ((And those who do not invoke...)) to the end, after which it says: ((Except for those who repent...)) (because from this it appears that after unjust killing, repentance is possible). Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "This verse is Makki and it has been abrogated by the verse which was revealed in Madinah: 'Whoever deliberately kills a believer, his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide forever.'"
Allah’s saying: "Do not say..." (Tafsir An-Nisa)
‘Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that some Muslims saw a man with a few goats. He said,“As-salamu Alaikum.”The Muslims seized him, killed him, and took the goats. Then this verse was revealed:“Do not say to the one who greets you with peace that you are not a believer (but only say Salam to save your life).”Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) recited (Salam) in this verse, and some have recited (Silm) (so the meaning would be: the one who approaches you with peace).
Allah’s saying: "If a woman fears..." (Tafsir An-Nisa)
‘Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said’ about this verse:“And if a woman fears ill-treatment or aversion from her husband, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between them { کوئی بات طے کر کے }...”She said that this verse was revealed about a woman who is with a man, but he no longer wishes to keep her with him much; however, the woman has children and intimacy with her husband, and she dislikes leaving her husband, so she gives up her right regarding herself. (That is, she relinquishes her conjugal right.)
Allah’s saying: "Today I have perfected for you..." (Tafsir Al-Ma'idah)
Tariq bin Shihab says that a Jew came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "O Commander of the Faithful! There is a verse in your Book which you recite; if it had been revealed to us Jews, we would have taken that day as a festival." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "Which verse?" The Jew replied, "Today I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I know the day on which this verse was revealed and the place where it was revealed. This verse was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at the place of Arafat on a Friday (and that day was a combination of two festivals for the Muslims: one was Friday and the other was the Day of Arafah)."
Allah’s saying: "Those who believe and do not mix..." (Tafsir Al-An'am)
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when this verse was revealed: "Those who believe and do not mix their belief with injustice (i.e., do not get involved in sin), for them is security and they are the rightly guided," it was very difficult for the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). They said, "O Messenger of Allah! Who among us does not wrong himself (i.e., commit sin)?" So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This verse does not mean what you think. Rather, by 'injustice' is meant what Luqman (peace be upon him) said to his son: 'O my son! Do not associate anything with Allah; indeed, associating partners with Allah is a great injustice.'" (Luqman: 13)
Allah’s saying: "Faith will not benefit a soul..." (Tafsir Al-An'am)
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When three things appear, then at that time, faith will not benefit anyone who did not have faith before or did not do good deeds: first, the rising of the sun from the place where it sets; second, the emergence of the Dajjal; and third, the emergence of the beast of the earth."
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) one day said to his companions: "Do you know where this sun goes?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) know best." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It keeps moving until it reaches its resting place under the Throne, where it falls down in prostration (the reality of this prostration is known only to Allah Almighty). Then it remains in that state until it is commanded: 'Rise and return to where you came from.' So it returns and emerges from its rising place. Then it keeps moving until it reaches its resting place under the Throne and prostrates. Then it remains in that state until it is told: 'Rise and return to where you came from.' It then emerges from its rising place again. And it continues in this way. One day it will move in the same manner and people will not notice any difference in its movement until it reaches its resting place under the Throne. At that time, it will be said to it: 'Rise and emerge from the west, from where you set.' So it will emerge from the west." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know when this will be? (i.e., the sun rising from the west) It will be at that time 'when no soul will benefit from its faith if it had not believed before or had not earned any good through its faith.'"
Allah’s saying: "Take your adornment at..." (Tafsir Al-A'raf)
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that a woman (in the time of ignorance) used to perform Tawaf of the Ka'bah naked and would say: "Who will give me a cloth so that I may cover my private parts with it?" And she would say: "Today all or some will be exposed, then whatever is exposed I will never make lawful (i.e., it has become forbidden forever)." (This indecent custom was abolished by Islam.) Then this verse was revealed: "Wear your clothes at every place of worship."
Allah’s saying: "It will be proclaimed: This is Paradise..." (Tafsir Al-A'raf)
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: A caller will call out (to the people of Paradise): It has been decreed for you that you will remain healthy and never fall ill, and indeed you will live and never die, and indeed you will remain young and never grow old, and indeed you will remain in bliss and comfort and never face any distress. And this is the meaning of Allah Almighty’s saying: "The people of Paradise will be called: This is your Paradise which you have inherited because of what you used to do."
Allah’s saying: "Allah would not punish them..." (Tafsir Al-Anfal)
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Abu Jahl, the accursed, said: "O Allah! If this Qur'an is true and from You, then rain down stones upon us from the sky, or bring upon us a painful punishment." At that time, this verse was revealed: "Allah will not punish them while you (O Prophet) are among them, and Allah will not punish them while they seek forgiveness. And what is (the matter) with them that Allah should not punish them while they prevent (people) from entering Masjid al-Haram...," until the end.
