Allah’s saying: "Do not pray over any of them..." (Tafsir At-Tawbah)
The hadith of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) in this chapter has already been mentioned in the Book of Virtues, in the chapter regarding the virtues of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) (see Hadith: 1636).
Regarding Surah At-Tawbah, Al-Anfal, and Al-Hashr (Tafsir At-Tawbah)
Saeed bin Jubair says: I said to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), "Surah At-Tawbah?" He said, "Surah At-Tawbah?" And he said, "Rather, that Surah is the one that humiliates and exposes (the disbelievers and hypocrites). In this Surah, it kept being revealed: 'And among them,' 'And among them,' until the hypocrites thought that none would be left whose mention would not be made in this Surah." I said, "Surah Al-Anfal?" He said, "That Surah is about the Battle of Badr (in it are mentioned the rulings of war booty)." I said, "Surah Al-Hashr?" He said, "That was revealed about Banu Nadir."
Allah’s saying: "Good deeds remove..." (Tafsir Hud)
‘Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that’ a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said,“O Messenger of Allah! I have derived pleasure from a woman on the outskirts of Madinah, and I did everything except intercourse. Now I am present before you, so pass whatever judgment you wish regarding me.”Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“Allah had concealed your sin; it would have been better if you had concealed it as well.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not reply to him. Then the man stood up and left. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a person after him, called him back, and recited this verse: ((Indeed, good deeds erase...)) A man said,“O Messenger of Allah! Is this ruling specific to him?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“No, rather it is for everyone.”
Allah’s saying: "They ask you about the soul..." (Tafsir Al-Isra, Bani Isra'il)
‘Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was walking with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a field, and he was leaning on a stick, when he passed by a group of Jews. One of them said to another,“Ask him about the soul.”The other said,“What doubt do you have that you want to ask? Perhaps he will say something that you will dislike.”Then they said,“Ask.”So some of them got up and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him about the soul. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent and did not answer. I thought that revelation was coming to him. He says: I remained standing in that place. When the revelation had been sent down, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse:“They ask you about the soul. Say: The soul is of the command of my Lord, and you have not been given knowledge except a little.”
Allah’s saying: "Those whom they invoke..." (Tafsir Al-Isra, Bani Isra'il)
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding this verse:“Those whom they call upon, they themselves seek means of access to their Lord,”that some people used to worship certain jinn. Those jinn became Muslims (and their worshippers did not know about it). And those people continued to worship them, then this verse was revealed:“Those whom they worship, they themselves seek means of access to their Lord.”
Allah’s saying: "Do not recite your prayer loudly..." (Tafsir Al-Isra, Bani Isra'il)
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says about this verse: "Do not recite your prayer too loudly, nor too quietly, but seek a way between," that it was revealed in Makkah Mukarramah at a time when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was hiding in a house due to fear. The incident is that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the companions in prayer, he would recite the Qur'an aloud. So when the polytheists heard the sound of the Noble Qur'an, they would abuse the Qur'an, the One who revealed it (i.e., Allah Almighty), and the one upon whom it was revealed (i.e., the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him). Upon this, Allah Almighty said to His Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Do not recite (the Qur'an) in prayer so loudly" that the polytheists can hear it, "nor recite (the Qur'an) so quietly" that your companions cannot hear it, "but recite (the Qur'an) in a moderate voice," between low and loud.
Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says regarding the statement of Allah Almighty: (And do not recite your prayer too loudly...) that this was revealed about supplication (i.e., do not supplicate in a very loud voice nor in a very low voice).
Allah’s saying: "We will not assign them any weight on the Day of Resurrection" (Tafsir Al-Kahf)
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, a big, fat man will come who, in the sight of Allah, will not be equal to the wing of a mosquito. Recite this verse: "We shall not assign any weight for them on the Day of Resurrection." (That is, the fatness, wealth, and riches of the world will be of no use on the Day of Resurrection; there, only deeds are required. This hadith proves the condemnation of obesity.)
Allah’s saying: "Warn them of the Day of Regret" (Tafsir Maryam)
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, death will be brought in the form of a white ram and it will be placed between Hell and Paradise. Then it will be said, "O people of Paradise! Do you recognize this?" They will raise their heads, look at it, and say, "Yes! We recognize it, it is death." Then it will be said, "O people of Hell! Do you recognize this?" They too will raise their heads, look at it, and say, "Yes! We recognize it, it is death." Then it will be ordered that the ram be slaughtered. Then it will be said, "O people of Paradise! You will live forever and there will never be death for you, and O people of Hell! You too will live forever and there will never be death for you." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "And warn them of the Day of Regret when the matter will be decided, and they are in heedlessness and do not believe." He (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed towards the world with his hand (meaning, they are so engrossed in the world that they have no fear of the Day of Resurrection).
Allah’s saying: "Have you seen the one who disbelieved..." (Tafsir Maryam)
Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I had a debt upon ‘As bin Wa’il. I went to him to collect it, but he said,“I will never give it to you until you turn away from Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his religion.”I said,“I will not turn away from Muhammad (peace be upon him) even if you die and are resurrected.”He said,“If I am resurrected after death, then I will pay your debt.”Then this verse was revealed:“Have you seen the one who disbelieves in Our verses and says, ‘I will surely be given wealth and children’? Has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken a covenant with Allah?...”to the end.
