It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to visit Sayyidah Umm Haram bint Milhan (may Allah be pleased with her), who was married to Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him), and she would feed him food. Once, she fed him food and began to remove lice from his head, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fell asleep. Then he woke up, and he was smiling.

Sayyiduna Qais bin Asim Sa'di (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he said: "This is the chief of the Bedouins." I said: O Messenger of Allah! How much wealth should I have so that no beggar or guest has a right over me? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Having up to forty (camels, etc.) is good. If it reaches sixty, then this is considered a lot, and for those who have hundreds, it is destruction, except for the one who gives his beloved wealth as a gift, gives a well-milked animal to the needy, and slaughters a fat animal, eats from it himself, and feeds those who are content as well as those who ask." I said: O Messenger of Allah! These habits are very generous. In the valley where I live, because of the abundance of my livestock, no one brings their animals there. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "What do you give as a gift?" I said: A young cow or bull and a two-toothed she-camel. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "What do you do regarding the milking animal?" I said: I give a she-camel for milking. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "What do you do regarding the pregnant she-camels?" I said: People bring their ropes and take the camel away with a halter; no one is prevented from this. The one who takes the camel keeps it as long as he wishes, and returns it whenever he wishes (I have never asked anyone about it). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do you love your wealth more or your relatives'?" He said: My own wealth. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Your wealth is only that which you have consumed and finished, or given away in charity; besides that, it belongs to your relatives and heirs." I said: Certainly, now I will go back and reduce my wealth, meaning I will give charity. When his death approached, he gathered his sons and said: O my sons! Listen to my words attentively, for no one can be a better well-wisher for you than me. Do not wail over me, for there was no wailing over the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbidding wailing. And shroud me in the clothes in which I used to pray. And make your elders your leaders; when you make your elders leaders, there will always be a successor of your father among you, and when you make the younger ones leaders, you will become insignificant in the eyes of your elders, and people will become indifferent to you. And manage your livelihood thoughtfully and properly, for in this way you will not have to ask from people. Do not stretch your hands before people, for this is the last resort for a servant. And when you have buried me, level my grave, for there have been disputes between me and the tribe of Bakr bin Wa'il, so I am not sure that some fool among them might do something that would bring a flaw into your religion.

Ali bin Madini (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I discussed with Abu Nu'man Muhammad bin Fadl, and he told me that I went to Sa'q bin Hazn (who was from Mallas) regarding this hadith, and he narrated from Hasan. He was asked: Did you hear it from Hasan yourself? He said: No, Yunus bin Ubaid narrates from Hasan. He was asked: Did you hear it from Yunus? He said: No, Qasim bin Mutayb narrated to me from Yunus, and he from Hasan, and he from Qais. I said to Abu Nu'man: Why did you not adopt this method? He said: It was lost from us (and I forgot it).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that I asked my close friend, Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: I brought water for ablution to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he moved his blessed head and pressed his lips between his teeth. I said: May my parents be sacrificed for you, have I caused you distress? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, but you will see such rulers or leaders who will delay the prayer from its proper time." I asked: So what do you command me to do? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You should perform the prayer at its proper time, and then if you find the prayer being performed with them, perform it as well, and do not say that I have already performed the prayer, therefore I will not perform it."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to me and Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) at night and said: "Do you not pray (the Tahajjud) prayer?" I said: O Messenger of Allah! Our souls are only in Allah's control; when He wills, He wakes us up. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went back and did not say anything to me. Then I heard him, as he was leaving, striking his thigh and reciting (this verse): «وَكَانَ الْإِنْسَانُ أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلًا» [الکھف: 54] "And man is most of all given to dispute."

It is narrated from Abu Razin (may Allah have mercy on him) that I saw Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) striking his forehead with his hand, and he was saying: O people of Iraq! Do you think that I would lie against the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Would there be pleasure and comfort for you and sin upon me? I bear witness that I certainly heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When the strap of any one of you (his shoe) breaks, he should not walk in the other (single) shoe until he has fixed it."

It is narrated from Abu Al-Aliyah Bara’ (may Allah have mercy on him) that Abdullah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by me, so I spread a mat for him and he sat on it. I asked him: Ibn Ziyad delays the prayer a lot, what do you say about this? He struck my thigh hard until a mark appeared on it. Then he said: I asked Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) the same thing you have asked me, and he struck my thigh just as I have struck yours. And he said: Perform the prayer at its proper time, then if you find the congregation with them, pray with them as well, and do not say: I have already prayed, so I will not pray.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went with a group of the Companions to Ibn Sayyad along with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), until they found him in a state where he was playing with boys near the fort of Banu Maghalah. At that time, Ibn Sayyad was close to puberty. He realized (their presence) when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) patted him on the back, then said:“Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?”He looked towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I bear witness that you are the Messenger of the unlettered (people). Then he said: Do you also bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pressed him firmly, then said:“I believe in Allah and His Messenger.”Then he asked Ibn Sayyad:“What do you see?”Ibn Sayyad said: Both the truthful and the liar come to me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Your matter has been confused for you.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) further said:“I have hidden something in my heart for you (tell me what it is).”He said: Dukhan (smoke). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Go away, you have not gone beyond your status.”Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Do you permit me to strike his neck? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“If he is that one, i.e., the Dajjal, then you will not be able to overpower him, and if he is not, then there is no good for you in killing him.”

Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that he heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) say: After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself and Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) went one day to the garden in which Ibn Sayyad was. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the orchard, he wanted to hear something from Ibn Sayyad before he saw him (to hear what he was murmuring), Ibn Sayyad was lying wrapped in a sheet on his bed and muttering. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was approaching, hiding behind the trunks of the date palms, when Ibn Sayyad’s mother saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and said to Ibn Sayyad: O Saf! (that was his name) Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is coming. So Ibn Sayyad became silent. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“If she had left him to his state, the matter would have become clear.”

Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among the people, praised Allah as He deserves, then mentioned the Dajjal and said:“I warn you about him, and every Prophet has warned his nation about him. Even Nuh (peace be upon him) warned his people about him. But I will tell you something about him which no Prophet told his nation: You should know that he is one-eyed, and Allah, the Exalted, is not one-eyed.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that in Madinah Tayyibah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fell from a horse onto the trunk of a date-palm tree, which caused a sprain in his blessed foot. We used to visit the upper room of Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) to inquire about the health of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Once, when we came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying while sitting. We prayed standing. Then, when we came again, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was offering the obligatory prayer while sitting, and we prayed standing behind him. During the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured for us to sit down. When he finished the prayer, he said: "When the Imam prays sitting, you should also pray sitting, and when he prays standing, you should also pray standing. Do not remain standing while the Imam is sitting, as the people of Persia do for their elders."
