Hadiths of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)
Instruction to remove the smell of onions and garlic and guidance about Baqi
Hadith Number: 10
حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا يحيى بن صبيح الخراساني ، عن قتادة ، عن سالم بن ابي الجعد ، عن معدان بن ابي طلحة اليعمري ، عن عمر بن الخطاب , انه قال: إني لاحسب انكم تاكلون شجرتين يعني: خبيثتين البصل والثوم، فإن كنتم لا بد فاعلين، فاقتلوهما بالنضج ثم كلوهما،" فلقد رايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يجد ريحه من الرجل , فيامر به , فيخرج إلى البقيع" .
Ma'dan bin Abu Talhah al-Ya'mari narrates this statement from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): I think that you people eat the produce of these two trees. (By this, Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) meant the odorous trees: onion and garlic.) If you must do so, then cook them to remove their smell, then eat them, because I remember regarding the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that if he sensed their smell, he would order regarding it, and it would be taken out towards "Baqi'."
