Chapter: On Using Another’s Siwak.
Hadith Number: 50
حدثنا محمد بن عيسى، حدثنا عنبسة بن عبد الواحد، عن هشام بن عروة، عن ابيه، عن عائشة، قالت:" كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يستن وعنده رجلان، احدهما اكبر من الآخر، فاوحى الله إليه في فضل السواك ان كبر اعط السواك اكبرهما"، قال احمد هو ابن حزم: قال لنا ابو سعيد هو ابن الاعرابي، هذا مما تفرد به اهل المدينة.
Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم was using the tooth-stick, when two men, one older than the other, were with him. A revelation came to him about the merit of using the tooth-stick. He was asked to show proper respect and give it to the elder of the two.

Benefits & Rulings:
➊ From this, we learn that when something is to be given, priority should be given to the elder person — provided they are not seated in a sequence. If seated in order, the one on the right has the right to receive first, even if younger. Likewise, in conversation and walking, preference should also be given to elders.
➋ If someone gives another person a used miswāk (tooth-stick), there is no harm in using it — and it is understood that it will be washed before use. However, modern-minded individuals often find this repulsive, which only indicates their lack of understanding of the teachings of the Sharī‘ah.
