ما قالوا: في البكاء من خشية الله

٣٨٤٧٠ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن علي بن زيد عن الحسن (١) ان ثلاثة علماء اجتمعوا فقالوا لاحدهم: ما املك؟ قال: (ما) (٢) ياتي ⦗١١٦⦘ علي شهر إلا ظننت اني (اموت) (٣) (فيه) (٤)، قالوا: إن هذا (الامل) (٥)، فقالوا للآخر: ما املك؟ قال: ما تاتي علي جمعة إلا ظننت اني اموت فيها، قالوا للثالث: وما املك؟ قال: وما امل من نفسه بيد غيره.

Hazrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said that three scholars gathered together and they asked each other, "How much hope do you have?" One replied, "I think I will live for one month and then die." They said, "This is a great hope." Then they asked the second, "How much hope do you have?" He replied, "I think I will live until one Friday and then die." They asked the third, "What is your hope?" He replied, "What hope can a person have whose very soul is in someone else's possession?"
