It is narrated from Abdu Khair that during the Battle of Jamal, a tent was pitched between the two armies for three days. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Talha, and Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them) would come there and discuss matters as Allah willed. When the third day came, after midday, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) lifted one side of the tent and gave the order for battle. Then we began to advance towards each other and started thrusting spears at one another, to the extent that if someone wanted to walk on top of those spears, he could have done so. Then we drew our swords, and I liken them to nothing except the house of Walid.
