It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was asked about the explanation of the verse «ولا تحسبن الذين قتلوا في سبيل الله أمواتا بل أحياء عند ربهم يرزقون» , so he said: O people! Listen, we asked (the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him) about its explanation, and we were informed that the souls of the martyrs are in the form of green birds, roaming freely in Paradise wherever they wish, and in the evening they take shelter in lanterns hanging from the Throne. Once your Lord looked upon them and asked: "Is there anything you desire so that I may grant it to you?" They said: O Lord! We desire nothing more. We roam wherever we wish in Paradise. Then (one day) Allah looked upon them again and said: "Is there anything you desire so that I may grant it to you?" When they saw that (Allah was determined to give, and that) there was no escape without asking and receiving, they said: Return our souls to our bodies so that we may go back to the world and be killed again in Your path.
Imam Tirmidhi says:
This hadith is Hasan Sahih.

With this chain, Ibn Abi Umar narrated from Ibn Mas'ud in the same manner, but with the addition: "Convey our greetings to our Prophet and also inform him that we are pleased and content with our Lord, and He is pleased and content with us."
Imam Tirmidhi says:
This hadith is Hasan. (That is: according to the above chain, because there is a break in the other chain.)

Narrated Abu Wa'il: "'Abdullah [bin Mas'ud] narrating from the Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) that he said: 'There is no person who does not pay the Zakat due on his wealth but on the Day of Resurrection Allah will make a Shuja'a around his neck.' Then he recited the Ayah for us from the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, testifying to that: And let not those who are stringy with that which Allah has bestowed on them of His bounty... (3:180) And another time he said: 'Testifying to that, the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) recited: On the Day of Resurrection, the things that they were stingy with... (3:180)' and whoever deprives his Muslim brother of his wealth by swearing, then he shall meet Allah while He is angry with him.' Then testifying to that, the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) recited the Ayah from Allah's Book: Verily, those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's covenant (3:77)."

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said: "Indeed the space in Paradise taken up by a whip, is better than the world and what is in it. Recite if you wish: 'And whoever is moved away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (3:185).'"

Narrated from Ibn Abi Mulaika that Humaid bin Abdur Rahman bin Awf informed him that Marwan bin Hakam said to his doorkeeper Abu Rafi: Go to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and say to him, "If every person who is pleased with what he has done and desires praise for what he has not done is deserving of punishment, then all of us would be deserving of punishment." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: What concern do you have with this verse? It was revealed about the People of the Book. Then Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) recited this verse «وإذ أخذ الله ميثاق الذين أوتوا الكتاب لتبيننه للناس ولا تكتمونه» 1 and recited «لا تحسبن الذين يفرحون بما أتوا ويحبون أن يحمدوا بما لم يفعلوا» 2. And he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked them (the Jews) about something, so they concealed it and told him something else instead and left. Then it was made apparent to you that they had informed you about what you had asked them, and they desired to hear your praise for it, and they were pleased with the answer they gave you by hiding it from their book and with the way you addressed them.
