It is narrated from Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you the chief of supplications for seeking forgiveness (Sayyid al-Istighfar)? (It is this:) 'O Allah! You are my Lord, You created me, I am Your servant and the son of Your servant, and I am upon Your covenant and promise as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favor upon me and I confess my sins. Surely, none forgives sins except You.' Whoever recites this supplication in the evening, Paradise will become obligatory for him."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you reach the morning, say: O Allah! By Your power we have reached the morning and the evening, by Your power we live and by Your power we die, and to You is the gathering. And when you reach the evening, say: O Allah! By Your power we have reached the evening and the morning, by Your power we live and by Your power we die, and to You is the return."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would recite this supplication in the morning: "O Allah! With Your help we have entered the morning and with Your help we have entered the evening, and with Your help we live and with Your help we die, and to You is the resurrection." And in the evening he would recite this supplication: "O Allah! With Your help we have entered the evening and with Your help we have entered the morning, and by Your power we live and by Your power we die, and to You is the return."

Amr bin Shu'aib narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever recites this phrase one hundred (100) times in the morning and one hundred (100) times in the evening—that is, a total of two hundred (200) times: «لاَ إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ المُلْكُ، وَلَهُ الحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ» 'Allah is the only true deity, He is alone, He has no partner, sovereignty belongs to Him, all praise is for Him, and He is capable of everything'—then (in terms of rank and status) neither those before him will surpass him, nor will those after him be able to reach his (rank), except for the person who does more than this."

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her): "What is preventing you from listening to my advice? Recite this supplication morning and evening: 'O Ever-Living, O Sustainer of [all] existence! By Your mercy I seek help; set right all my affairs and do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye.'"

Abdullah bin Abdur Rahman bin Abzi narrates from his father, who says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us to recite this supplication in the morning: "We have entered the morning upon the natural religion of Islam, the word of sincerity, the religion of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the way of our father Ibrahim (peace be upon him), who was upright and a Muslim and was not among the polytheists."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever recites this supplication ten times in the morning: «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ، وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ» Allah is the only true deity, He is alone, He has no partner, sovereignty belongs to Him, all praise is for Him, He gives life and causes death, and He is powerful over everything. Then Allah Almighty will write ten good deeds for him for each time, forgive ten sins, raise him ten ranks, these words will be equal in reward to freeing ten slaves for him, and they will protect him from morning till evening, and on that day, no deed of anyone will surpass this deed. If he recites this in the evening, he will receive the same reward."

The companion of the Messenger, Sayyiduna Mundhir (may Allah be pleased with him), who was in Africa, narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever recites this supplication in the morning: I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as my Messenger, then I (Muhammad) guarantee and take responsibility that I will hold his hand until I admit him into Paradise."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Malik Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that we say in the morning, in the evening, and when lying on the bed: "O Allah! Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the hidden and the manifest, You are the Lord of everything, and the angels bear witness that You alone are the true deity. We seek Your protection from the evil of our own selves, from the evil of Satan, from his call to polytheism, and from committing any evil against our own souls or causing any Muslim to fall into it."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Command me with a supplication which I may recite in the morning and evening. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Say: O Allah! Knower of the unseen and the seen! Creator of the heavens and the earth! Lord and Master of everything! I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except You alone. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and from the evil of Satan and his shirk (associating partners with You). When you enter the morning and the evening and when you lie down on your bed, recite this supplication.”
