Abu Maymunah narrates: A Persian man and his wife came to Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him); both were arguing about their son. The Persian said: O Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), this is our son. So Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will give you the same decision that I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) give. O boy! This is your father and this is your mother; you may choose whichever of them you wish. Then Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I was present with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man and his wife brought a case before him regarding their son. The man said: O Messenger of Allah! This is my son, who gives me water from the well of Abu ‘Unbah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“O boy! This is your father and this is your mother; you may choose whichever of them you wish.”
