It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he had such pain that he was near to perishing from it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Place your right hand on the place of pain and pass it over seven times, and say «أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللّٰهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ، مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ» ." Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I did exactly that, and Allah removed my pain. After that, I always instructed my family and other people to do the same.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would become ill, he would recite «﴿قُلْ هُوَ اللّٰهُ أَحَدٌ﴾» , «﴿قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ﴾» , and «﴿قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ﴾» and blow over himself. Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that when he (peace and blessings be upon him) became very ill, I would recite these surahs and move his (peace and blessings be upon him) right hand over his blessed body for the sake of blessing.

It is narrated from Hazrat Amrah bint Abdur Rahman that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when she was ill, and a Jewish woman was reciting and blowing over her. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Recite and blow with the words of Allah (the Torah or the Qur'an).
