What is Reported Regarding Those Who Love Each Other for Allah's Sake
Hadith Number: 1736
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, will say on the Day of Resurrection: 'Where are those who loved one another for My Majesty's sake? Today, I will shade them in My shade; this is the day when there is no shade except My shade.'"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) or Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There are seven persons whom Allah Almighty will shade with His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His shade (i.e., on the Day of Resurrection): first, a just ruler; second, a young man who grows up in the worship of Allah; third, a man whose heart is attached to the mosque, such that when he leaves it, he longs to return until he enters again; fourth, two men who love each other for the sake of Allah, meeting for that and parting for that; fifth, a man who remembers Allah in solitude and his eyes overflow with tears; sixth, a man whom a noble and beautiful woman invites to immorality, but he says: 'I fear Allah, the Lord of all the worlds'; seventh, a man who gives charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah loves a servant, He calls Jibreel (peace be upon him) and says: 'Indeed, Allah has loved so-and-so, so you also love him.' Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) loves him. Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) announces among the inhabitants of the heavens, that is, among the angels: 'Indeed, Allah has loved so-and-so, so you also love him.' So the inhabitants of the heavens love him. Then acceptance for that beloved servant is placed on the earth, meaning the righteous people of the earth consider him accepted and love him. And when Allah is displeased and angry with a servant..." (then He does likewise, that is, the opposite).
Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I think that some people have narrated similarly regarding Allah's displeasure (that is, after the last sentence, a similar statement would have been made, only using the word 'anger' instead of 'love').

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Idris Khawlani (he says): I went to the mosque of Damascus, where I saw a young man with white teeth. Whenever the people around him differed in any matter, they would hold fast to what he said and rely upon his statement. I asked, "Who is this young man?" The people said: "This is Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him)." The next day, I went very early and saw that he had arrived before me and was praying. I waited, and when he finished his prayer, I came before him and greeted him with salam. Then I said: "I love you for the sake of Allah, the Glorious and Exalted." He said: "For the sake of Allah?" I said: "Yes, for the sake of Allah." He asked again: "For the sake of Allah?" I said: "Yes, for the sake of Allah." He asked a third time: "For the sake of Allah?" I said: "Yes, for the sake of Allah." Then he took hold of the edge of my cloak, pulled me towards him, and said: "Rejoice! I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Allah, the Glorious and Exalted, says: My love becomes obligatory for those who love one another for My sake, who sit together for My sake (to remember Allah or to teach religious knowledge), who spend their lives and wealth for My sake, and who visit one another for My sake.'"

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says (Tabarani has narrated it as marfu’ in Al-Mu’jam Al-Kabir): Moderation, gentleness, and good appearance are one part out of the twenty-five parts of Prophethood.
