Extravagance

٢٨٢٩٧ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا عبد السلام عن مغيرة عن إبراهيم في قوله (تعالى) (١): ﴿والذين إذا انفقوا لم يسرفوا ولم يقتروا وكان بين ذلك قواما﴾ [الفرقان: ٦٧]، قال: لا يجيعهم ولا يعريهم، ولا (ينفق) (٢) نفقة يقول الناس: (إنه) (٣) اسرف فيها.

Hazrat Mughira narrates that Ibrahim, in accordance with the saying of Allah, the Lord of Might: Translation: And those who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor miserly, and their spending is moderate between the two. He said: They neither keep them hungry nor deprive them of clothing, nor do they spend in such a way that people say he has been wasteful in this matter.

٢٨٢٩٨ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن عمرو بن قيس عن (المنهال) (١) عن سعيد ابن جبير: ﴿وما انفقتم من شيء فهو يخلفه وهو خير الرازقين﴾ [سبا: ٣٩]، فهو قال: في غير إسراف ولا تقتير.

Hazrat Minhal narrates that Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair, in accordance with the saying of Allah, the Lord of Majesty: "And whatever you spend of anything, He replaces it, and He is the best of providers," said: This applies in cases other than extravagance and miserliness.

٢٨٢٩٩ - حدثنا ابن إدريس عن الاعمش عن الحكم عن يحيى بن الجزار عن ابي (العبيدين) (١) انه سال ابن مسعود عن التبذير فقال: إنفاق المال في غير حقه (٢).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) في [أ، ب، ط]: (السعدي).
(٢) صحيح؛ يحيى ثقة على الصحيح.
Hazrat Yahya bin Jazaar narrates that Hazrat Abu Al-Abidain asked Hazrat Ibn Masood about extravagance: so he replied: Spending wealth in places other than its rightful due is extravagance.

٢٨٣٠٠ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن حماد بن سلمة عن داود قال: قلت للحسن اشتري لامراتي في السنة طيبا بعشرين درهما: اسرف هذا؟ قال: ليس هذا بسرف.
Dawud narrates that I asked Hasan Basri: I bought perfume worth twenty dirhams for my wife in a year; is this extravagance? He replied: This is not extravagance.

٢٨٣٠١ - حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن إبراهيم بن ميسرة عن طاوس عن ابن عباس قال: البس ما شئت وكل ما شئت ما اخطاتك خلتان: سرف او مخيلة (١).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) صحيح؛ أخرجه عبد الرزاق (٢٠٥١٥)، وابن أبي حاتم في التفسير (٧٩٥٩)، وابن جرير (٨/ ١٦٢)، والبيهقي في الشعب (٦٥٧٢)، وابن حجر في تغليق التعليق (٥/ ٥٤).
Hazrat Tawus narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Wear whatever you wish and eat whatever you wish. But avoid two habits: one is extravagance and the other is pride.

٢٨٣٠٢ - حدثنا يعلى بن عبيد عن محمد بن سوقة عن (سعيد) (١) بن جبير قال: ساله رجل عن إضاعة المال، قال: ان يرزقك الله رزقا فتنفقه فيما حرم عليك.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Suqa says that a man asked Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair about wasting wealth. He replied: Wasting wealth is when Allah, the Lord of Majesty, grants you sustenance and you spend it on those things which Allah has forbidden for you.

٢٨٣٠٣ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن العوام قال كعب: انفقوا لخلف ياتيكم.
Hazrat Awam narrates that Hazrat Ka'b said: Spend, you will be given its replacement.

٢٨٣٠٤ - (حدثنا ابو بكر قال) (١): حدثنا عفان عن سكين بن عبد العزيز عن الهجري عن ابي الاحوص عن (عبد الله) (٢) قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"ما عال من اقتصد" (٣).

(٣) ضعيف؛ لضعف إبراهيم الهجري، أخرجه أحمد (٤٢٩٦)، والشاشي (٧١٤)، والطبراني (١٠١١٨)، وابن أبي الدنيا في إصلاح المال (٣٤٨)، والقضاعي (٧٩٦)، والبيقهي في الشعب (٦٥٦٩)، وابن عدي (٣/ ٤٦٢).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever adopts moderation will not become needy.

٢٨٣٠٥ - حدثنا وكيع عن يوسف عن ابي السرية عن الحسن قال: ليس في الطعام إسراف.
Yusuf narrates that Hazrat Abu Sariyah bin Hasan said: There is no extravagance in food.

٢٨٣٠٦ - حدثنا جعفر بن عون عن ابي العميس عن زياد (مولى) (١) مصعب عن الحسن ان اصحاب رسول الله ﷺ سالوه: ما (نفقتنا) (٢) على اهلينا فقال:"ما انفقتم على اهليكم في غير إسراف ولا تقتير فهو في سبيل الله" (٣).

(٣) مرسل، الحسن تابعي.
Hasan Basri narrates that the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What is the status of what we spend on our families?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "The wealth that you spend on your families without extravagance and without miserliness is counted as being in the way of Allah."
