Those Who Say: There Is No Repentance for One Who Kills a Believer

٢٩٥٤٤ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن عيينة عن ابن ابي نجيح عن كردم ان رجلا سال ابن عباس وابا هريرة (وابن عمر) (١) عن رجل قتل مؤمنا، فهل له من توبة؛ فكلهم قال: يستطيع ان يحييه؟ يستطيع ان يبتغي نفقا في الارض؟ او سلما في السماء؟ يستطيع ان لا يموت؟ (٢).

Hazrat Kardam narrates that a man asked Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), Hazrat Abu Hurairah, and Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) about a person who has killed a believer—will his repentance be accepted? All these respected companions replied: Does he have the power to bring him back to life? Does he have the power to find a tunnel in the earth or a ladder to the sky? Does he have the power that death will not come to him?

٢٩٥٤٥ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن (فضيل) (١) عن ابي نصر ويحيى الجابر عن سالم بن ابي الجعد عن ابن عباس قال: اتاه رجل فقال: يا ابا عباس ارايت رجلا قتل (٢) متعمدا ما جزاؤه؟ قال: ﴿(جزآؤه و) (٣) جهنم خالدا فيها وغضب الله عليه﴾ [النساء: ٩٣] الآية، قال: ارايت إن تاب وآمن وعمل صالحا ثم اهتدى؟ فقال: وانى له التوبة ثكلتك امك، إنه يجيء يوم القيامة آخذا براسه تشخب اوداجه حتى (يقف) (٤) به عند (العرش) (٥) فيقول: يا رب سل هذا ⦗٢٢٦⦘ (فيم) (٦) قتلني (٧).

(٧) صحيح؛ أبو نصر هو عبد اللَّه بن عبد الرحمن الضبي ثقة، ويحيى فيه ضعف، أخرجه الطبراني ٥/ ٢١٨، وورد مرفوعًا، أخرجه أحمد (١٩٤١)، والنسائي ٧/ ٨٥، وابن ماجه (٢٦١٢)، والحميدي (٤٨٨)، وعبد بن حميد (٢٦٢١)، وابن المبارك في الزهد (١٣٥٩)، والنحاس في الناسخ ص ٣٤٦، والطبراني ١٢/ (١٢٥٩٧)، والضياء في المختارة ١٠/ ٤٧.
Hazrat Salim bin Abu Ja’d narrates that a man came to Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) and said: O Abu Abbas! What is your opinion about a person who has committed murder intentionally? What is his punishment? He recited this verse: Translation: Its recompense is Hell, he will abide therein forever, and upon him is the wrath of Allah. The man asked: What is your opinion if he repents, believes, and does righteous deeds, then receives guidance? He replied: Where can his repentance be accepted? May your mother lose you! Surely, the murdered person will come on the Day of Resurrection holding his head, and blood will be flowing from his veins, until he stands by the Throne and says: O Lord! Ask him why he killed me?

٢٩٥٤٦ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا سفيان عن مطرف عن ابي السفر عن (ناجية) (١) عن ابن عباس قال: هما المبهمتان: الشرك والقتل (٢).

Hazrat Najiyah narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: These are two grave sins: shirk (associating partners with Allah) and murder.

٢٩٥٤٧ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا (حريث) (١) بن السائب عن الحسن قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"ما نازلت ربي في شيء ما نازلته في قاتل المؤمن فلم يجبني" (٢).

Hasan Basri narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I have not repeatedly asked my Lord about anything as much as I have asked Him about the one who kills a believer; yet He did not answer me regarding my request.

٢٩٥٤٨ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا سفيان عن هارون بن سعد عن ابي الضحى قال: كنت مع ابن عمر في فسطاطه فساله رجل عن رجل قتل مؤمنا متعمدا، قال: فقرا عليه ابن عمر: ﴿ومن يقتل مؤمنا متعمدا فجزآؤه جهنم خالدا فيها﴾ إلى آخر الآية، فانظر من قتلت (١).

(١) حسن؛ هارون بن سعد صدوق.
Hazrat Abu Duhah narrates that I was with Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) in his tent when a man asked him about a person who has intentionally killed a believer. So Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) recited this verse: Whoever intentionally kills a believer, his punishment is Hell; he will abide therein forever. So reflect upon what you have killed!

٢٩٥٤٩ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا سلمة بن نبيط عن الضحاك قال: ليس لقاتل المؤمن توبة.
Hazrat Salamah bin Nabi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Dhahhak (may Allah have mercy on him) said: There is no repentance for the one who kills a believer.

٢٩٥٥٠ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا عبد الاعلى عن يونس عن الحسن قال: قال ابو موسى: ما من خصم يوم القيامة ابغض إلي من رجل قتلته، تشخب اوداجه دما فيقول: يا رب سل هذا علام قتلني (١)؟.

(١) منقطع؛ الحسن لا يروي عن أبي موسى.
Hasan Basri narrates that Hazrat Abu Musa said: In my view, on the Day of Resurrection, the most detested quarrelsome person will be the one whom I have killed, his veins still bleeding, and he will say: O Lord, ask him for what reason he killed me?

٢٩٥٥١ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا سلمة بن نبيط عن الضحاك ابن مزاحم قال: لان اتوب من الشرك احب إلي من ان اتوب من قتل مؤمن.
Hazrat Salamah bin Nabi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Dahhak bin Muzahim said: In my view, it is more beloved to repent from killing a believer than to repent from shirk (associating partners with Allah).

٢٩٥٥٢ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا سلمة بن نبيط عن الضحاك ﴿ومن يقتل مؤمنا متعمدا فجزاؤه جهنم خالدا فيها﴾ قال: ما (نسخها) (١) شيء منذ نزلت.

Hazrat Salamah bin Nabi T says that Hazrat Dahhak bin Muzahim said about this verse: Translation: And whoever intentionally kills a believer, his recompense is Hell, he will abide therein forever. Since this verse was revealed, no part of it has been abrogated.

٢٩٥٥٣ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع قال: حدثنا إسماعيل (عن) (١) عبد الرحمن بن عائذ عن عقبة بن عامر الجهني قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"من لقي الله (لا) (٢) يشرك به شيئا لم (يند) (٣) بدم حرام دخل الجنة" (٤).

(٤) رجاله ثقات، لكن قيل: عبد الرحمن لم يرو عن عقبة فهو منقطع، أخرجه أحمد (١٧٣٨١)، وابن ماجه (٢٦١٨)، والحاكم ٤/ ٣٥١، والطبراني ١٧/ (٩٣٦).
Hazrat Uqbah bin Amir Juhani narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever meets Allah in such a state that he has not associated anything with Him and has not shed unlawful blood, he will enter Paradise.
