The Virtue of Seeking Forgiveness (Istighfar)

٣١٤٢٢ - (١) حدثنا معاوية بن هشام حدثنا شريك عن ابي إسحاق عن (رجل عن) (٢) معاذ بن جبل قال: من قال: استغفر الله الذي لا إله إلا (٣) (هو) (٤) الحي القيوم واتوب إليه ثلاثا (غفر له) (٥) وإن كان فر من الزحف (٦).

(٢) سقط من: [أ، ح، ط، هـ].
(٣) في [أ، ب، جـ، ط، ك]: زيادة (أنت).
(٤) سقط من: [جـ، ك].
(٥) سقط من: [ط].
(٦) مجهول؛ لإبهام الراوي عن معاذ.
Hazrat Mu'adh bin Jabal narrates: Whoever recites the words of forgiveness three times in this way: "I seek forgiveness from Allah, besides whom there is no deity; He is the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. And I repent to Him for my sins." That person is forgiven, even if he had fled from the battlefield.

٣١٤٢٣ - حدثنا ابن نمير عن (إسرائيل) (١) عن ابي سنان عن ابي الاحوص عن عبد الله بن مسعود قال: من قال: استغفر الله الذي لا إله إلا هو الحي القيوم واتوب إليه ثلاثا، غفر له وإن كان فر من الزحف (٢).

(٢) صحيح؛ أخرجه الطبراني (٨٥٤١).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever recites the words of forgiveness three times as follows: I seek forgiveness from Allah, besides whom there is no deity, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all, and I repent to Him for my sins. Then that person's sins are forgiven, even if he had fled from the battlefield.

٣١٤٢٤ - حدثنا ابو داود الحفري (عمر) (١) (بن) (٢) (سعد) (٣) عن يونس بن الحارث عن عمرو بن شعيب عن عبد الله بن عمرو قال: من قال: سبحان الله العظيم وبحمده غرس له بها نخلة في الجنة (٤) (٥).

(٥) ضعيف منقطع؛ يونس بن الحارث ضعيف، وعمرو بن شعيب لم يلق عبد اللَّه بن عمرو.
Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever recites these words, "Allah is free from all defects, is Great, and is with His praise," then because of this statement, a tree is planted for that person in Paradise.
