Narrations Mentioned Regarding the Virtue of Quraysh

٣٤٥٥٩ - حدثنا عبد الله بن إدريس قال: ثنا هاشم بن هاشم عن ابي جعفر قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"لا تقدموا قريشا فتضلوا، ولا تاخروا عنها فتضلوا، خيار قريش خيار الناس، وشرار قريش شرار الناس، والذي نفس محمد بيده لولا ان تبطر قريش لاخبرتها (ما) (١) لخيارها عند الله، او ما لها عند الله" (٢).

(٢) مرسل، أبو جعفر تابعي، وقد أخرجه أبو نعيم في الحلية ٩/ ٦٤ من حديث أبي جعفر عن جده عن علي.
Hazrat Abu Ja'far, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not go ahead of the Quraysh, otherwise you will go astray, and do not lag behind the Quraysh, otherwise you will go astray. The best people of the Quraysh are the best among all people, and the worst people of the Quraysh are the worst among all people. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ), if the Quraysh had not become arrogant, I would have told them that they are the best in the sight of Allah.

٣٤٥٦٠ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا الاعمش عن ابي (سفيان) (١) عن جابر قال: ⦗١٦١⦘ قال رسول الله ﷺ:"الناس تبع لقريش في الخير والشر" (٢).

(٢) حسن؛ أبو سفيان صدوق، أخرجه أحمد (١٥٠٤٩)، وأبو يعلى (٢٢٧٢)، وابن حبان (٦٢٦٣)، وابن أبي عاصم في السنة (١٥١٠)، والبغوي (٣٨٤٧).
Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People follow the Quraysh in good and bad.

٣٤٥٦١ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن ابن خثيم عن إسماعيل بن (عبيد الله) (١) ابن رفاعة عن ابيه عن جده قال: جمع رسول الله ﷺ قريشا فقال:"هل فيكم من غيركم"، (قالوا: لا) (٢)، إلا ابن اختنا ومولانا و (حليفنا) (٣)، فقال:"ابن اختكم منكم، [ومولاكم منكم، (وحليفكم منكم) (٤)] (٥)، إن قريشا اهل صدق وامانة، فمن بغى لهم العواثر كبه الله على وجهه" (٦).

(٦) حسن؛ إسماعيل صدوق صحح له الترمذي وابن حبان والحاكم وذكره ابن حبان في الثقات، والحديث أخرجه أحمد (١٨٩٩٢)، والحاكم ٢/ ٣٢٨، والبخاري في الأدب المفرد (٧٥)، والطبراني (٤٥٤٧)، والبزار (٢٧٨٠/ كشف).
Hazrat Rifa’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered the Quraysh and said:“Is there any outsider among you?”The people replied:“No, except for our nephews, our slaves, and our allies.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Your nephews are from among you, your allies are from among you, and your slaves are from among you. Indeed, the Quraysh are truthful and trustworthy. Whoever seeks out their faults and mistakes, Allah will cause him to fall on his face.”

٣٤٥٦٢ - حدثنا يعلى بن عبيد عن محمد بن عمرو عن ابي سلمة عن ابي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"الناس تبع لقريش في هذا الامر، خيارهم تبع لخيارهم، وشرارهم تبع لشرارهم" (١).

(١) حسن؛ محمد بن عمرو صدوق، أخرجه البخاري (٣٤٩٥)، ومسلم (١٨١٨).
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People follow the Quraysh in this matter. The best of the people are those who follow the best of the Quraysh, and the worst of the people are those who follow the worst of the Quraysh.

٣٤٥٦٣ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن ابن ابي ذئب عن الزهري عن طلحة بن عبد الله بن عوف عن عبد الرحمن بن الازهر عن جبير بن مطعم ان رسول الله ﷺ ⦗١٦٢⦘ قال:"إن للقرشي مثل قوة رجلين من غير قريش" (١).

(١) صحيح؛ أخرجه أحمد (١٦٧٤٢)، وابن حبان (٦٢٦٥)، والحاكم ٤/ ٧٢، وابن أبي عاصم في السنة (١٥٠٨)، والطيالسي (٩٥١)، ويعقوب في المعرفة ١/ ٣٦٨، وأبو يعلى (٧٤٠٠)، والبزار (٢٧٨٥/ كشف)، والطحاوي في شرح المشكل (٣١٣٠)، والطبراني (١٤٩٠)، وأبو نعيم في الحلية ٩/ ٦٤، والبيهقي ١/ ٣٨٦، والخطيب ٣/ ١٦٦، والبغوي (٣٨٥٠).
Hazrat Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, a Quraishi possesses the strength of non-Quraishi men. Imam Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: What is meant by this? He (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: It refers to maturity of opinion.

٣٤٥٦٤ - قيل للزهري: ما (عنى) (١) بذلك؟ قال: في نبل الراي.

34564 - It was said to al-Zuhri: What is (meant) (1) by that? He said: In the sharpness of opinion.

٣٤٥٦٥ - حدثنا عبد الاعلى عن معمر عن الزهري عن سهل بن ابي (حثمة) (١) ان رسول الله ﷺ قال:"تعلموا من قريش و (لا) (٢) تعلموها، وقدموا قريشا ولا تؤخروها، فإن للقرشي قوة الرجلين من غير قريش" (٣).

(٣) منقطع؛ الزهري لا يروي عن سهل، أخرجه عبد الرزاق (١٣٨٩٣)، وابن أبي عاصم في السنة (١٥١٥)، وابن حزم في الإحكام ٦/ ٢٨٦، والبيهقي ٣/ ١٢١.
Hazrat Sahl bin Abi Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Learn from the Quraysh. Do not teach them, and put the Quraysh forward and do not put them behind. Surely, one Qurayshi has the strength equal to two non-Qurayshi men.

٣٤٥٦٦ - حدثنا الفضل بن دكين عن عبد الله بن (مبشر) (١) عن زيد (بن) (٢) (ابي) (٣) عتاب (قال) (٤): قام معاوية على المنبر فقال: قال النبي ﷺ:"الناس تبع لقريش في هذا الامر، خيارهم في الجاهلية خيارهم في الإسلام إذا فقهوا، والله لولا ⦗١٦٣⦘ ان تبطر قريش لاخبرتها بما لخيارها عند الله" (٥).

Hazrat Zaid bin Abi Atab (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood on the pulpit and said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People are followers of the Quraysh in the matter of caliphate. Those among the Quraysh who were the best in the time of ignorance are also the best in Islam, provided they are given understanding. By Allah, if the Quraysh had not become arrogant, I would have told them how excellent they are in the sight of Allah!

٣٤٥٦٧ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا الاعمش قال: ثنا (سهل) (١) (ابو الاسد) (٢) عن بكير الجزري عن انس قال: اتانا رسول الله ﷺ ونحن في بيت رجل من الانصار فاخذ بعضادتي الباب ثم قال:"الائمة من قريش" (٣).

(٣) مجهول؛ لجهالة بكير الجزري، أخرجه أحمد (١٢٩٠٠)، والنسائي في الكبرى (٥٩٤٢)، والحاكم ٤/ ٥٠١، وابن أبي عاصم في السنة (١١٢٠)، وأبو يعلى (٤٠٣٣)، والداني في الفتن (٢٠١)، والبخاري في التاريخ ٢/ ١١٣، والبيهقي ٨/ ١٤٣، والطبراني في الأوسط (٦٦٠٦)، والدولابي ١/ ١٠٦، والطيالسي (٢١٣٣)، والبزار (١٥٧٨/ كشف)، وأبو نعيم في الحلية ٣/ ١٧١.
Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us while we were in the house of an Ansari man. The Prophet (peace be upon him) held both sides of the doorframe and then said: The Imams will be from among the Quraysh.

٣٤٥٦٨ - حدثنا ابو اسامة عن عوف عن زياد بن مخراق عن ابي كنانة عن ابي موسى قال: قام (١) رسول الله ﷺ على باب (٢) فيه نفر من قريش فقال:"إن هذا الامر في قريش" (٣).

(١) في [أ]: زيادة (فينا).
(٢) في [هـ]: زيادة (بيت).
(٣) حسن؛ أبو كنانة روى عنه جمع وأخرج له أبو داود وحسن له الذهبي، والحديث أخرجه أحمد (١٩٥٤١)، وابن أبي عاصم في السنة (١١٢١)، والبزار (١٥٨٢/ كشف)، والمزي في ترجمة أبي كنانة القرشي، والطبراني كما في مجمع الزوائد ٥/ ١٩٣.
Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood at a door where there was a group of the Quraish, and he (peace be upon him) said: Surely, the matter of caliphate will remain among the Quraish.
