Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand for prayer, he would say the takbeer and raise both hands up to the shoulders. When he completed his recitation and was about to go into ruku, he would do the same. When he rose from ruku, he would do the same. After that, he would not raise his hands during the prayer, except when he was sitting; when he stood up after performing two rak‘ahs, then at that time he would again raise his hands in the same way and say the takbeer.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand for prayer, he would raise both his hands until they were level with his shoulders, then he would say the takbeer. Then, when he was about to go into ruku‘, he would do the same, and when he raised his head from ruku‘, he would do the same. However, when he raised his head from sajdah, he would not do so.

Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand for prayer, he would raise both his hands until they were in line with his shoulders, then he would say the takbir. When he was about to go into bowing (ruku‘), he would raise both his hands until they were in line with his shoulders, then he would go into ruku‘. When he would rise from ruku‘, he would raise both his hands until they were in line with his shoulders, then he would recite“Sami‘ Allahu liman hamidah,”then proceed to prostration (sujud). Between the prostrations, he would not raise his hands. Throughout the entire prayer, whenever he would say the takbir while going into ruku‘, he would raise his hands.
