Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you sell some fruit to your brother and it is afflicted by some calamity, then it is not permissible for you to take any compensation from him. You would be taking your brother’s wealth without any right or basis." The narrator says: I asked my teacher Abu Zubair: Are the words 'jawaih' (calamities) mentioned in the narration? He replied: "No."

This narration is also transmitted with another chain, and it contains the same words: I asked, "Did they mention the word al-jawā’iḥ in your presence?" So he said, "No, they did not."

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever buys (or sells) fruit and it is struck by a calamity from the sky, then he should not take anything from it. On what basis, without any right, would you take your brother's wealth?"

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed to reduce the compensation in case of loss due to calamity, and he forbade making a deal for payment after several years.

Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) says about a person who pawns something and then it is lost, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "If the thing for which it was pawned is less than it, then he will return his full right, and if it is more than it, then he will be considered trustworthy."

Ubaid bin Umair narrates that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said about a person who pawns something and then loses it, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If it is less than the thing for which it was pawned, then all his right should be returned to him, and if it is more than that, then that person will be considered trustworthy."

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned something regarding reduction in compensation due to calamity. Sufyan says: To my knowledge, I do not know to what extent he ordered the reduction.

Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that the slave of Sayyidah Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) was declared insolvent. He was brought to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), so regarding him, Sayyiduna Uthman gave this verdict: "Whoever had taken something of his right before he was declared insolvent, that belongs to him, and whoever finds his goods exactly as they were with him, he has more right to those goods."

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The item held in pledge is entirely (considered as pledged)."

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The mortgaged item is (considered) completely mortgaged."
