Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever has the means and still does not offer the sacrifice, then he should not come to our mosque. Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed two rams with horns; one of them he slaughtered on behalf of himself and his household, and the other he slaughtered on behalf of those members of his ummah who could not do so.

Saeed bin Al-Musayyib narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to say: "Whoever has the means (financial ability) but does not offer the sacrifice, then let him not enter our mosque."

Saeed bin Al-Musayyib narrates from our master Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the sacrifice of two rams, both of which had horns and were bent at the back (curved). One of these rams was for him and his family, and the other ram was for those among his ummah who had not offered a sacrifice.

Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah begin and a person intends to offer a sacrifice, then he should not cut his hair or nails."

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The command of sacrifice has abrogated every slaughter that was before it." Then he mentioned the fasts of Ramadan, giving of zakat, and the ritual bath after major impurity, and said the same regarding them.

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The command of sacrifice has abrogated every slaughter that was before it, the fasts of Ramadan have abrogated every fast that was before them, the ritual bath of janabah has abrogated every bath that was before it, and zakat has abrogated every charity that was before it."

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Zakat has abrogated every charity mentioned in the Qur'an, the fasting of Ramadan has abrogated every (other) fast, the ritual bath for major impurity has abrogated every (other) bath, and the Eid sacrifice has abrogated every (other) slaughter."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that a man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him: "I have been commanded that the day of Eid al-Adha is an Eid, which Allah Almighty has appointed for this Ummah." The man submitted: If I have only that animal which my father has given me as a gift, or a goat belonging to my father or my wife, which those people have given as a gift, can I slaughter it? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "No! However, you should trim your nails, shorten your mustache, and remove the hair below the navel, then your sacrifice will be complete in the sight of Allah Almighty."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been commanded to offer sacrifice, but it is not obligatory."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sacrificing (an animal) has been made obligatory upon me, but it has not been made obligatory upon you people. I have been commanded to perform the Eid al-Adha prayer, but you have not been commanded to do so." This narration is also transmitted with another chain of narration.
