Chapter on grandmothers
Hadith Number: 79
نا سفيان بن عيينة ، وحماد بن زيد ، وجرير بن عبد الحميد ، عن منصور ، عن إبراهيم ، ان رسول الله صلي الله عليه وسلم " اطعم ثلاث جدات السدس" . وزاد جرير: قال منصور: فقلت لإبراهيم، فقال: جدتي ابيه ام امه، وام ابيه، وام ام الام".
The Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said: "Three grandmothers were given one-sixth (as inheritance)." Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Those grandmothers were: the paternal grandmother from the father's side, the father's mother, and the mother's mother's mother.

Hadith Number: 80
نا سفيان ، عن الزهري ، عن قبيصة بن ذؤيب ، قال: جاءت الجدة إلى ابي بكر بعد رسول الله صلي الله عليه وسلم، فقالت: إن ابن ابني او ابن ابنتي مات، وقد اخبرت ان لي في كتاب الله حقا. فقال ابو بكر:" ما اجد لك في كتاب الله حقا، وما سمعت النبي صلي الله عليه وسلم يقضي لك بشيء وساسال الناس. فسال الناس، فقال المغيرة بن شعبة: اعطاها رسول الله صلي الله عليه وسلم السدس. فقال: من يشهد معك؟ فقال: محمد بن مسلمة فشهدا , فاعطاها السدس" ، فجاءت التي تخالفها ام الام او ام الاب إلى عمر بن الخطاب، فاعطاها السدس، ثم قال:" ايكما انفردت فهو لها، وإن اجتمعتما فهو بينكما".
A grandmother came to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "My son or my son's son has died, and I have heard that in the Book of Allah there is a share for me." Abu Bakr said, "I do not find any share for you in the Book of Allah, nor have I heard anything from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I will ask the people." Al-Mughira bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) testified that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a sixth to the grandmother. When Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) also testified, he gave her the sixth. Then when another grandmother came, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also gave her the sixth and said, "If there is only one, she gets the whole (sixth); if there are two, it will be divided between them."

Hadith Number: 81
نا نا سفيان، عن يحيى بن سعيد، عن القاسم بن محمد، قال: جاءت جدتان إلى ابي بكر، فاعطى ام الام دون ام الاب، فقال له عبد الرحمن بن سهل وكان بدريا: لقد اعطيت التي لو ماتت هي لم يرثها." فجعل السدس بينهما" .
Sa'id narrated that Ibn Abi Layla narrated from 'Amir Sha'bi that Sayyiduna 'Ali and Sayyiduna Zaid, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "Three grandmothers were given inheritance: two from the father's side, and one from the mother's side, and the sixth share was given to the nearest one."

Hadith Number: 82
نا نا هشيم، قال: انا يحيى بن سعيد، قال: نا القاسم بن محمد، ان رجلا مات وترك جدتيه ام امه وام ابيه، فاتوا ابا بكر،" فاعطى ام امه السدس، وترك ام ابيه، فقال له رجل من الانصار: لقد ورثت امراة لو كانت هي الميتة ما ورث منها شيئا، وتركت امراة لو كانت هي الميتة ورث مالها كله. فاشرك بينهما في السدس .
Sa'id narrated that Abu Mu'awiyah narrated from Al-A'mash, who narrated from Ibrahim that: "As long as one person does not give inheritance to the other, both should be given a share in the one-sixth."

Hadith Number: 83
نا هشيم ، قال: انا حجاج ، عن قتادة ، عن ابن سيرين ," ان رسول الله صلي الله عليه وسلم اطعم جدة السدس، وكانت من خزاعة" .
Sa'id narrated that Hajjaj narrated from Qatadah, who narrated from Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A grandmother was given one-sixth, and she was from Khuza'ah."

Hadith Number: 84
نا نا هشيم، قال: انا ابن ابي ليلى، والاشعث، عن الشعبي، ان عليا ، وزيدا ، " كانا يورثان ثلاث جدات: ثنتين من قبل الاب، وواحدة من قبل الام، وكانا يجعلان السدس لاقربهما" .
Sa'id narrated that Hajjaj narrated from Qatadah, who narrated from Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A grandmother was given one-sixth, and she was from Khuza'ah."

Hadith Number: 85
نا نا ابو معاوية، قال: نا الاعمش، عن إبراهيم , قال عبد الله : " لا تحجب الجدات إلا الام" .
Saeed narrated that Ibn Abi Layla and Ash'ath reported from 'Amir Sha'bi regarding Sayyiduna 'Ali and Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them) that they used to give inheritance to three grandmothers: two from the father's side and one from the mother's side, and they would give the sixth share to the nearest one.

نا هشيم قال: انا يونس، عن الحسن " انه كان يورث من الجدات ثلاثا: ثنتين من قبل الاب، وواحدة من قبل الام ، وكان ابن سيرين يورث اربعا إذا كانت قرابتهم سواء".
Saeed narrated that Ibn Abi Layla narrated from Sha'bi that Sayyiduna Ali and Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "They used to give inheritance to three grandmothers: two from the father's side, and one from the mother's side, and they would give the sixth share to the nearest one."

نا هشيم، قال: انا اشعث بن سوار، قال: نا الشعبي، قال: جئن إلى مسروق اربع جدات يتساءلن، فالقى ام ابي الام. قال: فاخبرت بذلك ابن سيرين، فقال: " اوهم ابو عائشة، يورثن جمع" .
Sa'id narrated that Muhammad bin Thabit 'Abdi narrated from Qatadah, who said about the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): "The most merciful to my Ummah is Abu Bakr, the most strict and the softest-hearted is 'Umar, the most modest and shy is 'Uthman, the most knowledgeable about what is lawful and unlawful is Mu'adh bin Jabal, the most knowledgeable about the obligatory duties is Zayd bin Thabit, and the one who recites the Qur'an the most is Ubayy bin Ka'b."

نا نا حماد بن زيد، عن كثير بن شنظير، عن عطاء، ان زيد بن ثابت ، قال: " يحجب الرجل امه كما تحجب الام امها من السدس" .
Sa'id narrated that Hajjaj narrated from Qatadah, who narrated from Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A grandmother was given one-sixth, and she was from Khuza'ah."
