Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey with his companions, and fasting became very difficult for his companions. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for a vessel in which there was water, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) drank it while sitting on his mount, while the companions were looking towards him.

Hazrat Ubaid bin Jubair narrates that I boarded a boat with the companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Basrah Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him), from the city of Fustat during Ramadan. Sayyiduna Abu Basrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Are you turning away from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)?" Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says, "I do not know Kulaib bin Dehl and Ubaid bin Jubair, and I do not accept the religion (narrations) of a person whose integrity and trustworthiness I do not know, provided that the narration is established."

Mr. Mansur Kalbi narrates that Mr. Wahiya bin Khalifah set out from his village Fustat towards the village of Hazrat Uqbah bin Amir during the blessed month of Ramadan, so he broke his fast and the people also broke their fast with him. However, some people disliked breaking the fast. Then when he returned to his village, he said, "By Allah, today I have seen such a scene that I never expected to see. Some people have shown disinterest in the conduct of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and his companions." He said this about those people who kept the fast during the journey. On this occasion, he prayed, "O Allah, call me to Yourself (cause me to die)." Mr. Ibn Abd al-Hakam narrates that he set out from his village in Damascus, al-Mazah, for a distance equal to the village of Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him), then he broke his fast. The rest of the narration is the same. Mr. Muhammad bin Yahya says that Ibn Lahi'ah used to say about this narrator, "Mansur bin Zaid Kalbi."

Ayub says that Abu Qilabah narrated this hadith to me, then he said to me,“Do you wish to know the teacher from whom I heard this hadith?”Then he informed me about him, so I met him. He said,“My close relative, Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated to me that I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) regarding my camels that had been seized. I came to you (peace be upon him) at a time when you were eating, so you (peace be upon him) invited me to eat. I said, ‘I am fasting.’ The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: ‘Come near,’ or he said, ‘Come (and eat), I will inform you about this matter. Indeed, Allah Almighty has excused the traveler from fasting and half of the prayer. And the pregnant and breastfeeding woman is also excused (from fasting).’ After this, Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say, ‘Alas, I wish I had accepted the invitation of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and eaten from his food.’ Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that this narration belongs to the same category which I have mentioned in Kitab al-Iman, that the term ‘half’ can be applied to any part of something, even if that part is not exactly half. In this narration, the Prophet (peace be upon him) stated that Allah Almighty has excused the traveler from ‘shatr’ (half) of the prayer. Here, ‘shatr’ means half. In this place, ‘shatr’ does not mean side, direction, or orientation. My intention is Allah Almighty’s statement «‏‏‏‏فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ» ‏‏‏‏ [ سورة البقرة: 144 ] “So turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque.”(Here, ‘shatr’ means side and direction.) And Allah Almighty has not excused the traveler from exactly half of the prayer, because Allah Almighty has not excused the traveler from any part of the Fajr and Maghrib prayers.

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was eating food. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Come near to the food." He replied, "I am fasting." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Come near to the food (and eat), I will tell you about fasting. Indeed, Allah Almighty has excused the traveler from fasting and half of the prayer, and has also excused fasting for the pregnant and breastfeeding woman." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the Anas bin Malik Ansari referred to here is a member of the family of Abdullah bin Malik (not the special servant of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him).

The respected Imam narrates the above-mentioned tradition through the chain of narration of Affan, in which he states that this narration is from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), but he is not an Ansari. And Affan, in his hadith, has mentioned the nursing woman (and has not mentioned the pregnant woman).
