Returning the Ansar’s gifts of trees and fruits to them after the Muhajirun became self-sufficient
Hadith Number: 1159
Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when the Muhajirun migrated from Makkah to Madinah, they had no belongings with them. The Ansar were people of land and property. The Ansar made an arrangement with the Muhajirun that they would give them fruit from their gardens every year, and in return, the Muhajirun would work in their gardens. The mother of Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), Umm Sulaym, who was also the mother of Abdullah bin Abi Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), gifted a date garden to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but he granted that garden to his slave woman Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the mother of Usamah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him). Ibn Shihab narrated that Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) informed me that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned to Madinah after finishing the battle with the Jews of Khaybar, the Muhajirun returned to the Ansar the gifts they had received from them in the form of fruits. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also returned the garden of Hazrat Anas’s mother and, instead, granted Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her) some trees from his own garden.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that as a gift, the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to allocate some date-palm trees from their gardens for the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), until the tribes of Banu Qurayza and Banu Nadir were conquered (then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, returned those gifts). My family also sent me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to take those dates, either all of them or a part of them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had given those dates to Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her). Meanwhile, she also arrived and put a cloth around my neck and said, "Absolutely not. By the One besides whom there is no deity, you will not get this fruit. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has already granted it to me," or she said words to that effect. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her, "You may take such and such in exchange from me (and return their property to them)," but she kept insisting, "Absolutely not, by Allah!" until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) promised her ten times as much, as narrated by Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), or he said words to that effect, then she let me go.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that we were besieging the fort of Khaybar. Someone threw a container filled with fat. I rushed to take it, but when I turned around, I saw that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was present nearby. I was overwhelmed with embarrassment.

Narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) directly narrated to me, he informed me that during the period when there was a truce (Hudaybiyyah) between me and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I was on a business trip and was in Syria when the letter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached Heraclius. He narrated that Dihyah Kalbi (may Allah be pleased with him) brought the letter and handed it over to the governor of Busra, and from there it reached Heraclius. Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Heraclius asked, "Are there any people from the nation of the man who claims to be a Prophet within our borders?" The courtiers replied, "Yes, there are." Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that then I, along with some other men from Quraysh, was called. We entered the court of Heraclius and were made to sit in front of him. He asked, "Who among you is closest in relation to the man who claims to be a Prophet?" Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated, "I said, 'I am the closest.'" The courtiers then made me sit very close to the king and my companions behind me. After that, the interpreter was called, and Heraclius said to him, "Tell them that I will ask you some questions about the man who claims to be a Prophet. If he (i.e., Abu Sufyan) lies, then expose his lie." Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Allah! If I had not feared that my companions would report me as a liar, I would have surely lied about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." Then Heraclius said to his interpreter, "Ask him, what is the lineage of the man who claims to be a Prophet?" Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "His lineage among us is very noble." He asked, "Was there any king among his ancestors?" I said, "No." He asked, "Did you ever accuse him of lying before his claim to Prophethood?" I said, "No." He asked, "Are his followers the noble or the weak among the people?" I said, "The weak among the people are more." He asked, "Are their numbers increasing or decreasing?" I said, "No, rather they are increasing." He asked, "Has anyone ever, after accepting his religion, become displeased and left it?" I said, "That has never happened." He asked, "Have you ever fought with him?" I said, "Yes." He asked, "What was the outcome of your battles with him?" I said, "The example of our battles is like a bucket: sometimes it is in their hands, sometimes in ours." He asked, "Has he ever betrayed you?" I said, "So far, he has not betrayed us, but these days we have a treaty with him, and I do not know what he will do in it." Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated, "By Allah! Except for this sentence, I could not add anything from myself in this entire conversation." Then he asked, "Has anyone before him ever made such a claim among you?" I said, "No." After that, Heraclius said to his interpreter, "Tell him: I asked you about his lineage, and you told me that he is considered noble and of high lineage among you. This is the case with the Prophets; their mission is always among the noble families of their people. I asked you if there was any king among his ancestors, and you denied it. From this, I conclude that if there had been a king among his ancestors, it could have been said that he wanted to reclaim his ancestral kingdom. I asked you about his followers, whether they are the weak or the noble among the people, and you told me that the weak are more among his followers. This is always the case; the weak have always followed the Prophets. I asked you if you ever accused him of lying before his claim to Prophethood, and you denied it. From this, I understand that a person who has never lied to people, how could he lie about Allah? I asked you if anyone, after accepting his religion, became displeased and left it, and you denied it. This is the effect of faith when it enters the depths of the heart. I asked you whether the number of his followers is increasing or decreasing, and you told me that it is increasing. This is the case with faith until it reaches perfection. I asked you if you have ever fought with him, and you told me that you have, and the outcome was sometimes in your favor and sometimes in theirs. This is also the case with the Prophets; they are put to trials, but in the end, the outcome is in their favor. I asked you if he has ever broken a covenant with you, and you denied it. The Prophets never break their covenants. I asked you if anyone before him had made such a claim among you, and you said no. From this, I conclude that if anyone before him had made such a claim, it could have been said that he is imitating him." He narrated that then Heraclius asked, "What does he command you to do?" I said, "Prayer, zakat, maintaining family ties, and chastity." Finally, he said, "If what you have said is true, then he is indeed a Prophet. I also knew that the time of his Prophethood was near, but I did not think that he would be from your people. If I were sure I could reach him, I would certainly go to meet him, and if I were with him, I would wash his feet, and his kingdom will reach as far as these two feet of mine." Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated, "Then he called for the letter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and read it. It was written in it: 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. From the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to Heraclius, the great of Rome. Peace be upon him who follows guidance. To proceed: I invite you to Islam. Accept Islam and you will be safe, and Allah will give you a double reward. But if you turn away, then the sin of your subjects will also be upon you. "O People of the Book! Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah" "and that we associate none with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah." But if they turn away, then say: Bear witness that we are Muslims.'" (Aal Imran: 69) When Heraclius finished reading the letter, there was a great commotion in the court, and then we were expelled from the court. When we came out, I said to my companions, "The matter of Ibn Abi Kabsha has reached such a point that even the king of Bani al-Asfar (Heraclius) fears him." After this incident, I became certain that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would surely prevail, and eventually Allah placed the light of Islam in my heart as well.

Battle of Hunayn
Hadith Number: 1163
A man asked Hazrat Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him), "Abu Umara! Did you people flee in the battle of Hunain?" Hazrat Bara (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "No, by Allah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who was the leader of the army, never turned his back. However, among his companions were some young men who were without equipment, who had neither armor nor helmet, and had not taken any weapons with them. They certainly left the battlefield, because in opposition were the best archers of Hawazin and Banu Nasr, whose arrows rarely missed their target. So they showered arrows, and hardly any of their shots missed (during this time, the Muslims) gathered around the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was mounted on his white mule, and his cousin Abu Sufyan bin Harith bin Abdul Muttalib was holding the reins of his mount. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted and prayed to Allah Almighty for help. Then he said: 'I am a Prophet, there is no falsehood in this; I am a descendant of Abdul Muttalib.' After this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arranged his companions in ranks (in a new manner)."

A man from the tribe of Qais asked Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him),“Did you people flee and leave the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during the Battle of Hunain?”Hazrat Bara’ replied,“But the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) did not move from his place. The people of the tribe of Hawazin were archers. When we attacked them, they retreated, then we became busy with the spoils of war, and eventually, we had to face their arrows. I myself saw that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) was mounted on his white mule, and Hazrat Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) was holding its reins. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was saying: ‘I am a Prophet, there is no lie in this.’”

Battle of Ta’if
Hadith Number: 1165
Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) besieged Ta’if, no harm was done to the enemy. Eventually, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Now, if Allah wills, we shall return.”It was very hard for the Muslims to return unsuccessful. They said,“Alas! Shall we return without victory?”(The narrator once used the word“naqfil”instead of“nadhhab,”meaning,“we shall return and not conquer Ta’if.”) Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Then come out to the battlefield for battle early in the morning.”The companions came early in the morning, but a large number of them were wounded. Then again, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“If Allah wills, we shall return tomorrow.”The companions liked this very much. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed at this.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Makkah (on the day of the conquest of Makkah), there were three hundred and sixty idols around the Ka'bah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) had a stick in his hand, with which he began striking those idols and saying, "Truth has come and falsehood has perished."

Treaty of Hudaybiyyah at Hudaybiyyah
Hadith Number: 1167
Narrated Al-Bara' bin 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him): When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made the treaty of Hudaybiyyah (with the Quraysh), the document was written by 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He wrote in it: "From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." The polytheists objected to this, saying: "Do not write 'the Messenger of Allah' with Muhammad. If you were the Messenger of Allah, why would we be fighting you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Erase the words 'the Messenger of Allah'." 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I said, I cannot erase it." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) erased it himself with his own hand. And he made peace with the polytheists on the condition that he would come to Makkah the following year with his companions for three days, and that they would enter with their weapons sheathed. Al-Bara's students asked him: "What is 'jalban al-silah' that is mentioned here?" He replied: "The sheath and what is inside it is called 'jalban'."

Hazrat Abu Wa’il narrated that we were encamped at the place of Siffin. Then Sahl bin Hunaif (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said,“O people! Consider your own opinion to be mistaken. We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at the time of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. If fighting had been required, we would certainly have fought at that time. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came on that occasion (i.e., at Hudaybiyyah) and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Are we not upon the truth and are they not upon falsehood?’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Why not!’ Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘Will not our slain be in Paradise and their slain in Hell?’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Why not!’ Then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘Then why should we submit in the matter of our religion? Should we return (to Madinah) without Allah having decided between us and them?’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘O son of Khattab! I am the Messenger of Allah, and Allah will never ruin me.’ After that, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him the same questions that he had just asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He also replied, ‘The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is indeed Allah’s Messenger, and Allah will never let him be ruined.’ Then Surah Al-Fath was revealed, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited it to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) till the end. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘Is this (really) a victory?’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Yes! Indeed, this is a victory.’
