It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that a man who intended to travel came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: O Messenger of Allah! Advise me. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I advise you to fear Allah and to say "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest) whenever you ascend a high place. When that man turned to leave, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O Allah! Fold the earth for this man (i.e., shorten his journey) and make his travel easy for him.

Salim bin Abdullah narrates that when someone came to my father, Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), with the intention of traveling, he would say: Come close to me, so that I may bid you farewell in the same manner as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to bid us farewell. Then he would say: I entrust your religion, your trust, and the end of your deeds to Allah.

Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A man left from Khaybar, two men started following him, and another one behind them, who was saying to them: "Stop, stop." (Until) he turned them back, then he caught up with the first man and informed him that these two were devils, I kept following them until I turned them back. When you reach the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), convey my greetings to him and inform him that we are collecting charity here; if it is suitable for you (peace and blessings be upon him), we will send it. That man reached Madinah and conveyed his message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade seclusion (being alone).

Abdullah bin Amr bin Faghwa narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Amr bin Faghwa (may Allah be pleased with him), who says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called me, because he wanted to give me some wealth to send to Sayyiduna Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), so that he could distribute it among the Quraysh. This incident took place after the conquest of Makkah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Find yourself a companion. Amr bin Umayyah Damri (may Allah be pleased with him) came to me and said: I have heard that you intend to travel and are looking for a companion? I said: Yes. He said: I am your companion. I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him that I had found a companion, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had told me that when you find a companion, inform me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who is your companion? I said: Amr bin Umayyah Damri (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you enter the territory of his people, be cautious of him, for indeed someone once said: Your brother is stronger than you, so do not become fearless of him. So we set out and reached Abwa. That companion said to me: The dwelling of my people is in the Waddan area, I have some business with them, so wait for me. I said to him: Alright (I will wait). When he left, I remembered the advice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so I mounted my camel, departed from there, and made it run swiftly until I reached the place of Asafir. (But I saw that) he, along with a group of his people, came before me to intercept my way. But I made my camel run faster and got ahead of him. Then, when he saw that he could not overpower me, those people turned back and Amr bin Umayyah came to me and said: I had some business with my people. I concealed the matter and said: Alright, then we continued until we reached Makkah Mukarramah and I handed over the wealth to Abu Sufyan.

Ali bin Rabi’ah says: I saw Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), a mount was brought to him so that he could ride it. When he placed his foot in the stirrup, he said“Bismillah”(In the name of Allah). When he mounted it, he said:“All praise is for Allah, Glory be to Him, Who has subjected this (mount) to us, while we were not able to control it, and surely to our Lord we shall return.”Then he praised Allah three times and declared His greatness three times. Then he said:“Glory be to You, there is no deity except You. Indeed, I have wronged myself, so forgive me.”Then he laughed. I said:“O Commander of the Faithful! Why did you laugh?”He said:“I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) do just as I have done, then he laughed. I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Why did you laugh?’ He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Your Lord is amazed at His servant when he says: O my Lord! Forgive me, so Allah says: My servant knows that none forgives sins except Me.’”
