Ata says: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: If you have the ability, then on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, go after eating something. Since I heard this from him, I have not abandoned eating before going in the morning; whether it was a morsel of bread, or he would drink milk or water. Ibn Jurayj asked Ata: What is the interpretation of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas’s (may Allah be pleased with him) statement? He said: My opinion is that he must have heard it from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He would not go out until the light had become long, that is, until the day had fully risen, and he used to say that he ate so that there would be no need to hurry for the prayer.

Then it occurred to him that the women might not have heard his voice, so he went to them, preached to them, and instructed them to give charity. So the women began to put their earrings, rings, and other things (into the garment of Sayyiduna Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him).
