Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the wife of Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Rabi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with her two daughters and said: O Messenger of Allah! These are the two daughters of Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him); their father was martyred with you in the Battle of Uhud, and their uncle has taken all their wealth. Obviously, if these girls have no wealth, they will not be able to marry. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty will decide about this matter. Then the verse of inheritance was revealed, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called their uncle and said to him: Give two-thirds to Sa’d’s daughters and one-eighth to their mother, and whatever remains (as ‘asabah) is yours.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) received this verse: {وَالّٰتِیْیَاْتِیْنَ الْفَاحِشَۃَ مِنْ نِّسَایِکُمْ فَاسْتَشْہِدُوْا عَلَیْہِنَّ اَرْبَعَۃً مِّنْکُمْ فَاِنْ شَہِدُوْا فَاَمْسِکُوْھُنَّ فِی الْبُیُوْتِ حَتّٰییَتَوَفّٰیھُنَّ الْمَوْتُ اَوْ یَجْعَلَ اللّٰہُ لَھُنَّ سَبِیْلًا۔} … And those of your women who commit indecency, call to witness four from among you against them; then if they bear witness, confine them to the houses until death takes them or Allah appoints for them a way. (Surah An-Nisa: 15) So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) acted accordingly with the women. Then once, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting and we were gathered around him. When revelation would come to him, he would turn away from us, and this time too, he turned away from us and the color of his blessed face changed and he was distressed. When the state of revelation passed from him, he said: Receive the command from me. We said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! He said: Allah Almighty has made a way for women: when an unmarried man commits fornication with an unmarried woman, then one hundred lashes and one year of exile; and when a married man commits adultery with a married woman, then one hundred lashes and then stoning. Hasan, the narrator, says: I do not know whether this next part is part of the hadith or not: If people testify that this man and woman were found under one blanket, but do not testify to intercourse, then they will be given one hundred lashes and their heads will be shaved.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): We acquired women from the Banu Awsat tribe as slave girls, while their husbands were present (i.e., they were previously married and their husbands were alive), so we disliked having intercourse with them because their husbands were present. Then when we asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, this verse was revealed: {وَالْمُحْصَنَاتُ مِنْ النِّسَائِ إِلَّا مَا مَلَکَتْ أَیْمَانُکُمْ} … And married women (are also forbidden) except those (slave girls) whom your right hands possess. So, due to ownership by the right hand, we had intercourse with them.

Mujahid says that Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah! Men participate in jihad and we women do not participate in jihad, and our share of inheritance is also half that of men? And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you excel others. For men is a share of what they have earned, and for women is a share of what they have earned. And ask Allah for His bounty. Surely, Allah is ever All-Knowing of everything.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I recited Surah An-Nisa to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and when I reached this verse: {فَکَیْفَ اِذَا جِئْنَا مِنْ کُلِّ اُمَّۃٍ بِشَہِیْدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِکَ عَلٰی ھٰؤُلَائِ شَہِیْدًا} …“Then how will it be when We bring from every nation a witness and We bring you as a witness over these?”At this, tears began to flow from the eyes of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was a dispute between Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) and an Ansari regarding a stream in Harrah, from which they used to irrigate their date palms. The Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him): "Let the water flow for my date palms," but he refused to do so. The Ansari took the case to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Zubair! Irrigate (your land) first, then let the water flow to your neighbor." But this decision angered the Ansari, and he said: "You have given this decision because he is your aunt's son." Upon hearing this, the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) changed, and then he said: "O Zubair! Now hold the water until it reaches the wall, then let it flow ahead." Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) says: By Allah! I think this verse was revealed about this matter: {فَلَاوَرَبِّکَ لَایُؤْمِنُوْنَ حَتّٰییُحَکِّمُوْکَ فِیْمَا شَجَرَ بَیْنَہُمْ ثُمَّ لَا یَجِدُوْا فِیْ اَنْفُسِھِمْ حَرَجًا مِّمَّا قَضَیْتَ وَیُسَلِّمُوْا تَسْلِیْمًا} ... So, by your Lord, they cannot be believers until they make you judge in all disputes between them, then find in themselves no resistance against your decisions and accept them with full submission.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that some people from among the Arabs came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah Munawwarah and accepted Islam. However, when they were afflicted by the epidemic of Madinah, that is, fever, they turned back and left Madinah. On the way, they met a group of the noble Companions who asked them: "What has happened to you, why are you returning?" They replied: "We have been struck by the epidemic of Madinah, and due to the city's climate not suiting us, we have developed an illness in our stomachs." The Muslims said: "Is there not an example for you in the person of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" Now, some Muslims said: "They have become hypocrites," while others said: "They have not become hypocrites, rather they are Muslims." So Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: {فَمَا لَکُمْ فِی الْمُنَافِقِینَ فِئَتَیْنِ وَاللّٰہُ أَرْکَسَہُمْ بِمَا کَسَبُوْا۔} ...
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out towards Uhud, the hypocrites who had set out with him turned back from the way. Because of them, the Companions were divided into two groups: one group thought that we should fight these hypocrites, while the other group was of the opinion that they should not be fought. Then this verse was revealed: {فَمَا لَکُمْ فِی الْمُنَافِقِینَ فِئَتَیْنِ وَاللّٰہُ أَ رْکَسَہُمْ بِمَا کَسَبُوْا۔} … Then what is [the matter] with you [that you are] two groups concerning the hypocrites, while Allah has made them revert because of what they earned. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This (city) is Tayyibah; it purifies sins just as fire removes the impurities of silver.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to him and said: Tell me about this—if a man deliberately kills another man (what is his punishment)? His recompense is Hell, he will abide therein forever, and Allah’s wrath is upon him, Allah has cursed him, and has prepared for him a great punishment. This verse was revealed last; no verse has abrogated it, and this ruling remained until the death of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and after that, no revelation was sent to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this matter. The man said: If he repents, strengthens his faith, does righteous deeds, and becomes rightly guided, then? He said: How will his repentance be accepted, when I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: May his mother lose him! A man deliberately kills another man, and the slain will come on the Day of Resurrection holding his killer with his right or left hand, and will have also seized him by the head, while blood will be flowing from the veins of the slain. He will bring him before the Throne and say: O my Lord! Ask this servant of Yours, for what reason did he kill me?
