Fear Prayer - The eighth type of fear prayer
Hadith Number: 2887
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the prayer of fear: The Imam will stand, and a group will stand with him. They will perform one rak'ah, and the other group will remain between them and the enemy. Then those who performed one rak'ah with the Imam will go back, and those who have not yet prayed will take their place. Then these people will come and perform one rak'ah with the Imam. Then the Imam will complete his prayer. Each of the two groups will perform one rak'ah separately. If the fear is more severe than this, then the prayer should be performed while walking or riding.

Fear Prayer - The ninth type of fear prayer
Hadith Number: 2888
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates regarding the Salat al-Khawf (prayer of fear) from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, one group stood behind him, and another group stood behind them. Those who were standing directly behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were standing, while the other group was sitting. All their faces were towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said the takbir, and both groups said the takbir. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ruku‘, and the group behind him also performed ruku‘, while the others remained seated. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed sajdah, so those people performed sajdah, and the others remained seated. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, those people also stood up, and they moved back to the place where their companions were sitting. Then the second group came, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in one ruku‘ and two sajdahs, and the others remained seated. Then when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said salam, both groups stood up and each performed one rak‘ah individually. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) There is no contradiction or difference in these narrations; rather, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Salat al-Khawf in different ways on different occasions, as we have mentioned. The intention of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was to teach his ummah the methods of Salat al-Khawf, because it is permissible for them to perform the prayer according to any of these nine methods, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the prayer in times of fear. That is, whichever method is suitable according to the situation, it is permissible for a person to perform the prayer in times of fear according to any of these methods that we have mentioned. These belong to the category of permissible differences; there is no contradiction or difference in these narrations.

This was after the time when those who fast have broken their fast. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: By Allah! We too have not yet performed this prayer. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stopped at the place of Bathan and I was with him. Abdur Rahman bin Abu Sa’id Khudri narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him). On the occasion of the Battle of Khandaq, we were engaged (in fighting) until the time after Maghrib had passed. This was before the command regarding fighting was revealed. When our sufficiency regarding the battle was achieved (this refers to the statement of Allah, the Exalted): "In battle, Allah was sufficient for the believers. Allah is Powerful and Dominant." (After Maghrib had passed) the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave the Iqamah for Zuhr, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed this prayer just as he would perform it at its (prescribed) time. Then he gave the Iqamah for Asr, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed this prayer just as he would perform it at its (prescribed) time. Then he gave the Iqamah for Maghrib, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed this prayer just as he would perform it at its (prescribed) time.
