It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to apply a lot of oil to his head and would comb his beard after wetting it with water.

Abdullah bin Shaqiq says: A companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was a governor in Egypt, his hair was disheveled, in fact very disheveled. Another companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to him and said: What is the reason that your hair is so disheveled, even though you are a leader? He replied: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade us from «اِرْفَاه» . We asked: What is meant by «اِرْفَاه» ? He said: Combing the hair daily.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade combing the hair, except occasionally.

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Brokenness is also a part of faith." That is, intentionally abandoning comfort, pleasure, and prosperity.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There are two things that are destructive for women: gold and dyed (with safflower) clothes."

Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to forbid his family from (wearing) jewelry and silk, and he used to say: "If you like to wear the jewelry and silk of Paradise, then do not wear them in this world."

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Anas al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever, out of humility and solely for the sake of Allah Almighty, refrains from wearing fine clothes while he is able to do so, then on the Day of Resurrection Allah Almighty will call him before all of creation and give him the choice to wear whichever garment of faith he likes."

Kuraib narrates: After the eyesight of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was lost, I used to guide him through the alleys of Abu Lahab. One day he said: I heard from my father (Sayyiduna Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A man was walking, wearing fine clothes and expressing self-admiration, when suddenly Allah caused the earth to swallow him up, and he will continue to sink in it until the Day of Resurrection."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, when Allah bestows a blessing upon a servant, He likes to see the effect of His blessing on His servant."

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, when Allah bestows a blessing upon a servant, He likes to see the effect of His blessing on the servant, and He dislikes the display of poverty, misery, and hardship. He dislikes one who begs insistently, and He likes one who is modest, chaste, and pure."
