Allah said:“You were given little knowledge”
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that while I was walking with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) among the ruins of Madinah and he was walking with a palm stick resting on the ground, the Prophet (peace be upon him) passed by some Jews. One of them said to the others,“Ask him (peace be upon him) about the soul.”Some of them said,“Do not ask, lest he says something that you dislike.”Then some said,“We will certainly ask.”So one of them stood up and said,“O Abul Qasim! What is the soul?”The Prophet (peace be upon him) remained silent. (Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says) I thought to myself that revelation was being sent down upon him. So I stood up. Then, when that state left the Prophet (peace be upon him), he said:“And they ask you (O Prophet) about the soul. Say: The soul is by the command of my Lord, and you have been given but little knowledge.”

Disliking to teach one group only
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), while Sayyiduna Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) was riding behind him on the mount, said:“O Mu’adh bin Jabal!”He replied,“At your service, O Messenger of Allah, and I am ready.”(Then) the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“O Mu’adh!”He replied,“At your service, O Messenger of Allah, and I am ready.”(Then) the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“O Mu’adh!”He replied,“At your service, O Messenger of Allah, and I am ready.”This happened three times. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“Whoever testifies with a sincere heart that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, Allah makes the (Hell) fire forbidden for him.”Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“O Messenger of Allah! Should I inform the people so that they may rejoice?”The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“If you inform them, they will rely (only) on this (and stop acting).”And Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith at the time of his death, fearing the sin of concealing knowledge.

Shyness in knowledge is blameworthy
Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said,“O Messenger of Allah! Allah is not shy of the truth, so (please tell me), is ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory upon a woman when she has a wet dream?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied,“Yes, if she sees water (i.e., semen) (on her clothes or private part).”Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) then covered her face out of shyness and said,“O Messenger of Allah! Does a woman also have a wet dream?”He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied,“Yes, may your right hand be dusty (i.e., an expression of mild rebuke), then why would the child resemble her if her fluid does not come out?”

One who is shy asks through another
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that: "I used to have a lot of madhi (pre-seminal fluid) discharge, so I asked Miqdad bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about its ruling. So he asked, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Only wudu (ablution) is obligatory for it.'"

Mentioning knowledge and giving fatwa in mosque
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man stood in the mosque and said, "O Messenger of Allah! From which place do you command us to assume Ihram?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people of Madinah should assume Ihram from Dhu'l-Hulaifah, the people of Sham from Juhfah, and the people of Najd from Qarn." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, people think that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also said that the people of Yemen should assume Ihram from Yalamlam. And Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say that I did not hear this clearly and explicitly from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Telling questioner more than he asked
Narrated by Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
A man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "What should a Muhrim (one in the state of Ihram for Hajj or Umrah) wear?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "He should not wear a shirt, nor a turban, nor trousers, nor a cap, nor any garment that has been touched by saffron or wars (a kind of perfume). If sandals are not available, then he may wear leather socks, but he should cut them so that they are below the ankles."
