Writing knowledge is not innovation
Narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the illness of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) became severe, he said: "Bring me writing materials so that I may write a document for you after which you will never go astray." Sayyiduna Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the illness has overwhelmed the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) (his condition is extremely unwell), and since we have the Book of Allah with us, that is sufficient for us. Then the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) differed until there was much commotion, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Get up from me, and what is the matter of causing dispute in my presence?"
Teaching at night is allowed
Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that one night the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up from sleep and said,“Glory be to Allah! How many trials have been sent down tonight and how many treasures have been opened! (O people!) Wake up the women sleeping in these rooms (so that they may worship), for there are many who are clothed in this world who will be naked in the Hereafter (due to lack of good deeds).”
Discussing knowledge at night is allowed
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) once led the ‘Isha prayer in the last part of his blessed life. When he had finished the prayer and said salam, he stood up and said:“Remember this night of yours well (see), from tonight until the end of one hundred years, none of the people who are on the earth today will remain.”
Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that: I spent a night in the house of my maternal aunt, Umm al-Mu'mineen Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was with her that night. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) offered the 'Isha prayer (in the mosque), then came to his house and prayed four rak'ahs, and then lay down and slept. Then he woke up and said: "Has the little boy slept?" or he said something similar. Then he stood up (to pray), and I stood (after performing ablution) on his left side, so he made me stand on his right side. Then he prayed five rak'ahs, after which he prayed two rak'ahs (the Sunnah of Fajr), then lay down until I heard the sound of his snoring. Then he went out for the (Fajr) prayer (to the mosque).
Memorizing knowledge is essential
`Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that people say that Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) has memorized and narrated many hadiths, and if these two verses were not in the Book of Allah, I would not narrate even a single hadith. Then he would recite: "Indeed, those who conceal the clear proofs and guidance We have sent down... Most Merciful, Most Compassionate." (Al-Baqarah: 159, 160) Surely, our Muhajir brothers were occupied with buying and selling in the markets, and our Ansari brothers were busy with their wealth and work, and Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) would stay with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to fill his stomach, and he would be present at times when others were not present, and he would remember things that others would not remember.
Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): I said, "O Messenger of Allah! I hear many hadiths from you but I forget them." So he said, "Spread your cloak." So I spread my cloak, and he scooped with both his hands (and made a symbolic gesture as if pouring something into the cloak), then said, "Wrap it around yourself." So I wrapped it around myself, and after that I never forgot anything.
Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): I memorized two vessels (of knowledge, two types of knowledge) from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). As for one of them, I have made it public; but if I were to disclose the other, my neck would be cut.
Silence to listen to scholars
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him during the Farewell Pilgrimage: "Make the people quiet." (When the people became silent,) then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "(O people!) Do not become disbelievers after me, that you start killing each other."
Scholar should attribute knowledge to Allah
Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“Musa (peace be upon him) once stood to deliver a sermon among the Children of Israel. He was asked, ‘Who is the most knowledgeable among the people?’ He replied, ‘I am the most knowledgeable.’ So Allah reproached him for not attributing knowledge to Allah. Then Allah revealed to him that among My servants there is a servant at the junction of the two seas who is more knowledgeable than you. Musa (peace be upon him) said, ‘O my Lord! How can I meet him?’ He was told, ‘Put a fish in a basket (and set out towards the junction of the two seas). When you lose the fish (at a certain place), know that the servant is there.’ So Musa (peace be upon him) set out, taking with him his servant Yusha’ bin Nun, and they placed a fish in a basket. When they reached a rock (a stone), they both rested their heads (on the ground) and slept. (At that place) the fish slipped out of the basket and made its way into the sea. Musa (peace be upon him) and his servant were amazed at the fish coming to life. Then they both continued walking for the rest of the night and a day. When morning came, Musa (peace be upon him) said to his servant, ‘Bring us our breakfast (the meal with the fish), for we have suffered much fatigue from this journey.’ Musa (peace be upon him) did not feel any fatigue until he had passed the place he was commanded to stop at. (When his servant looked, the fish was gone.) He said, ‘Did you see (do you remember) when we rested by the rock? I forgot to mention the fish (completely).’ Musa (peace be upon him) said, ‘That is the place we were seeking.’ So they both retraced their steps, following their footprints, until they reached the rock. (What did they see?) A man was sitting, wrapped in a cloth (or he said, he had wrapped a cloth around himself). Musa (peace be upon him) greeted him with salam. Khidr (peace be upon him) said, ‘Where is salam in your land from?’ He replied, ‘I am not from here, I am Musa (peace be upon him).’ Khidr (peace be upon him) said, ‘Musa of the Children of Israel?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ Musa (peace be upon him) said, ‘May I follow you so that you may teach me some of the guidance you have been taught?’ He said, ‘You will not be able to have patience with me. O Musa! I have knowledge from Allah which He has especially given to me, which you do not know, and you have knowledge which Allah has taught you, which I do not know.’ Musa (peace be upon him) said, ‘If Allah wills, you will find me patient, and I will not disobey you in any matter.’ (So Khidr (peace be upon him) agreed.) Then they both walked along the riverbank, and they had no boat. A boat passed by them, and they asked its people to take them on board. Khidr (peace be upon him) was recognized, and the boat people took them on board without fare. Then a bird came and sat on the edge of the boat and dipped its beak once or twice into the river. Khidr (peace be upon him) said, ‘O Musa! My knowledge and your knowledge, compared to Allah’s knowledge, is only as much as this bird’s beak took from the sea.’ Then Khidr (peace be upon him) went to one of the planks of the boat and pulled it out. Musa (peace be upon him) said, ‘These people took us on board without fare, and you have damaged their boat so that its passengers may drown!’ Khidr (peace be upon him) said, ‘Did I not tell you that you would not be able to have patience with me?’ Musa (peace be upon him) said, ‘I forgot, so do not hold me accountable, and do not be hard on me in my matter.’ The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) said that the first time, Musa (peace be upon him) made this objection out of forgetfulness. Then they both (disembarked from the boat and) walked on until they met a boy who was playing with other boys. Khidr (peace be upon him) seized his head from above and killed him with his hand. Musa (peace be upon him) said, ‘You have killed an innocent soul without reason!’ Khidr (peace be upon him) said, ‘Did I not tell you that you would not be able to have patience with me?’ Ibn ‘Uyaynah (the narrator of the hadith) said that this time the rebuke was more emphatic than the previous one. Then they both walked on until they came to a town and asked its people for food, but they refused to host them. There they found a wall about to collapse, so Khidr (peace be upon him) supported it with his hand and repaired it. (Then) Musa (peace be upon him) said, ‘If you wished, you could have taken a wage for it.’ Khidr (peace be upon him) said, ‘(Now) this is the parting between me and you.’ The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) said (after narrating this much): ‘May Allah have mercy on Musa (peace be upon him). We wished that Musa (peace be upon him) had been patient, so that more of their story would have been related to us.’
Standing to ask a seated scholar
Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by fighting in the way of Allah? For some of us fight out of anger and some fight for (personal or tribal) pride." So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raised his (blessed) head towards him (to pay attention), and (the narrator says) he raised his head because the man was standing. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever fights so that the word of Allah is exalted (and His word becomes supreme), then he is fighting in the way of Allah."
