No prayer accepted without purification
Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "The prayer of a person who has had a hadath is not accepted until he performs ablution." A man from Hadramaut (a city) asked, "O Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him)! What is 'hadath'?" He replied, "The passing of wind, whether with or without sound."

Virtue of ablution
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "My Ummah will be called on the Day of Resurrection with their limbs shining due to the traces of ablution, such as their hands, feet, etc., shining because of ablution. So whoever among you can increase the brightness should do so."

Do not doubt ablution unless certain
`Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid Al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the condition of a person was mentioned before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who imagines that he feels something (i.e., wind) passing during prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that he should not leave (the prayer) or turn away until he hears a sound or perceives a smell.

Light ablution
Narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): One night I stayed at the house of my maternal aunt, Umm al-Mu'mineen Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). When a part of the night had passed, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up and performed a light ablution from a hanging water-skin.... (Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, offered the Tahajjud prayer.... This hadith is mentioned in multiple chapters.)

Complete ablution of all parts
Narrated Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) departed from ‘Arafah, and when he reached the valley, he dismounted and urinated, then performed ablution, but did not complete the ablution. So I said,“O Messenger of Allah! (The time for) prayer is near.”He (peace be upon him) said,“The prayer is ahead of you (i.e., we will pray in Muzdalifah).”When he reached Muzdalifah, he dismounted and performed complete ablution. Then the call for the establishment of prayer (iqamah) was given, and he (peace be upon him) led the Maghrib prayer. After that, everyone made their camels kneel at their places. Then the iqamah for the ‘Isha prayer was given, and he (peace be upon him) led the prayer, and he did not pray any (optional) prayer between the two.

Washing face with both hands from one handful
Narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he performed ablution, so he took a handful of water and with it rinsed his mouth and put water into his nose. Then he took a handful of water and did like this, meaning he rubbed both hands together and washed his face with that handful. Then he took a handful of water and washed his right hand, then took a handful of water and washed his left hand (up to the elbow). Then he took a handful of water and poured it over his right foot until he washed it, then took another handful of water and washed his left foot with it. Then (Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform ablution in this manner.

Placing water when going to toilet
Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that (on one occasion) when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered the toilet, I placed water for his ablution. (When the Prophet came out from there) he asked: "Who placed this water?" He was informed, so he said: "O Allah, grant him understanding of the religion."

Do not face qiblah when relieving oneself
Narrated Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When any one of you goes to the toilet, he should neither face the Qiblah nor turn his back towards it. Rather, he should face towards the east or the west. (In those countries where the Qiblah is towards the west, one should face north or south.)

Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to say: People say that when you sit for relieving yourself, neither face the Qiblah nor face Bait-ul-Maqdis.
