Performing ablution and bath from a bowl is permissible
Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) became heavy (with illness) in his final sickness and his illness became severe, he (peace be upon him) sought permission from his wives to be nursed in my (Aisha’s) house, so all of them gave him permission. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) came out (to go to my house) supported between two men, and his (blessed) feet were dragging on the ground as he walked. And the Prophet (peace be upon him) came out with Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and another man (Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him), and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) had come to his house and his illness increased further, he (peace be upon him) said:“Pour seven water skins over me whose knots have not been untied, so that I may advise the people.”(So this was done.) And the Prophet (peace be upon him) was seated in the washbasin of Umm al-Mu’minin Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him). After that, we began to pour water over him (peace be upon him) until he (peace be upon him) gestured to us that (now you have fulfilled the command). After that, the Prophet (peace be upon him) went out to the people.
Performing ablution from a basin
Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked for a vessel of water, so a wide-mouthed, shallow bowl was brought before him in which there was some water. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) put his fingers into it. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I was watching the water gushing forth from between the fingers of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) like a spring. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I estimated the people who performed ablution with that water, and they were between seventy and eighty.
Ablution with one mudd (small measure) of water is established
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wash his body or (he said) when he used to bathe, he would use from one sa’ to five mudd (of water), and for ablution he would use one mudd (of water).
Wiping over leather socks is established
‘The conqueror of Persia, Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped over the leather socks (khuffs). And Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked (his father) Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about this matter, so he said: Yes. When Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates any report to you from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then do not ask anyone else about it (for confirmation).’
Sayyiduna Amr bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that he saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wiping over both his leather socks.
Narrated by Sayyiduna Amr ibn Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him): I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over his turban and both his leather socks.
Do not remove socks to wash feet if worn after ablution
Narrated Sayyiduna Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him): I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on a journey, so when it was time for ablution, I intended to remove both of his leather socks. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Leave them, for I put them on while my feet were in a state of purity." Then he wiped over them.
Evidence for not performing ablution after eating goat meat or sattu
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Umayyah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ate a shoulder of a goat, then he was called for prayer. So he, peace and blessings be upon him, put down the knife. After that, he, peace and blessings be upon him, performed the prayer and did not perform ablution (again).
Rinsing mouth after sattu but not performing ablution
Narrated from Sayyiduna Suwaid bin Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the year of (the conquest of) Khaybar, he went along with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), until when they reached (the place) Sahba, which was very close to Khaybar, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed the 'Asr prayer and then asked for food (breakfast). The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) brought only sattu (barley flour) to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He ordered it to be mixed with water, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and all of us ate it. After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up to perform the Maghrib prayer and (only) rinsed his mouth, and we (also only) rinsed our mouths and performed the prayer, and did not perform ablution (again).
Narrated from Ummul Momineen Maimunah (may Allah be pleased with her) that (once) the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ate the meat of (a goat's) shoulder at her place, then offered prayer and did not perform ablution.
