About the Battle of Ushayrah
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was asked, "How many expeditions (ghazwat) did the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) undertake?" He replied, "Nineteen (19)." Then he was asked, "In how many expeditions did you accompany the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?" He said, "In seventeen expeditions." Then he was asked, "Which was the first of these expeditions?" He replied, "The expedition of Ushayrah or Usayrah."

Explanation of Allah’s saying:“When you sought help from your Lord... He is severe in punishment.”(Surah Anfal: 9-13)
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw such a thing from Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) that if I had attained that thing, I would not have considered any other good deed to be equal to it; it would have been dearest to me. (What happened was that) the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was supplicating against the polytheists, when Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and said: O Messenger of Allah! We will never say as the people of Musa (peace be upon him) said to him: "You and your Lord go and fight (the enemy)" (__QUR_N__: Surah Al-Ma'idah: 24), rather, we will fight (the enemy) from your right side, your left side, from in front of you, and from behind you. I saw that (upon hearing this) the face of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) began to shine and he became happy.

Number of Muslims who participated in the Battle of Badr
Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who were present at Badr narrated to me that their number was the same as those who were with Talut (the king) and crossed the river with him, and they were a little over three hundred and ten men. Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says: By Allah! None except the believers could cross the river with them. (See Surah Al-Baqarah, verse: 249)

The killing of Abu Jahl
Narrated Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said (on the day of Badr): "Who will look for Abu Jahl and bring me news of him?" So Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them both) went and found him (in such a state) that the two sons of 'Afra had beaten him so much that he was dying. Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "Are you Abu Jahl?" and grabbed his beard. He (Abu Jahl) said, "Is there anyone greater than the man you have killed?" or he said, "Is there anyone greater than the man whom his own people have killed?"

Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered that on the day of Badr, the corpses of twenty-four leaders of the Quraysh be thrown into one of the dirty and impure wells of Badr. And whenever the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prevailed over a people, he would stay at that place for three nights. So when it was the third day at Badr, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave the order, and his camel was saddled for him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out, and his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) followed him. They thought that perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was going for some task, until he stood at the edge of that well and began to call them (the disbelievers of Quraysh) by their own names and the names of their fathers, saying: "O so-and-so, son of so-and-so! O so-and-so, son of so-and-so! Would it not have been better for you now if you had obeyed Allah and His Messenger? Indeed, we have found true what our Lord promised us. Have you also found true what your Lord promised you?" Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) says that then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), are you speaking to bodies in which there is no soul (present)?" So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Him in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! You do not hear what I am saying any better than they (the disbelievers) do."

The presence of angels at the Battle of Badr
Sayyiduna Rifa’ah bin Rafi’ Zurqi رضي الله عنه, who participated in the Battle of Badr, says that Jibreel عليه السلام came to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and said,“How do you regard the people of Badr among yourselves?”The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم replied,“I consider them the best among all Muslims,”or said something similar. So Jibreel عليه السلام said,“Likewise, the angels who were present at the Battle of Badr (are also the best among all the angels).”

Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Amr Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him), who was an ally of Banu Zuhrah and also participated in the Battle of Badr, says: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "What do you say about this: if I meet a disbeliever (in battle) and we both strive to kill each other, and he (the disbeliever) strikes my hand with a sword and cuts it off, then he takes refuge behind a tree and says, 'I have submitted to Allah (become a Muslim),' should I kill him after he says this?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "No, do not kill him." I said, "O Messenger of Allah! He has cut off one of my hands, and after cutting it off, he says (that he has become a Muslim)." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Do not kill him, for if you do, he will attain the rank you had before you killed him, and your condition will become like his was before he recited the testimony of Islam."

Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) says: On the day of the Battle of Badr, I encountered ‘Ubaydah bin Sa‘id bin ‘As, and he was so covered in armor that only his two eyes were visible, and his nickname was Abu Dhat al-Karsh. He said,“I am Abu Dhat al-Karsh.”I attacked him with my spear and struck his eye, and he died. (Sayyiduna Zubair, may Allah be pleased with him) says: When he died, I placed my foot on his corpse and, stretching out both hands, with great difficulty pulled the spear out of his eye; both its edges had become bent. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me for that spear, so I gave it to him. Then, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, I took it back. Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked me for that spear, so I gave it to him. Then, when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for it, and I gave it to him. Then, when Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, I took it back. Then Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for it, so I gave it to him. Then, when Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, it remained with Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and his children. Finally, Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) asked them for it, and it remained with him until he was martyred.

Lady Ruba'i bint Mu'awwidh (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to me the morning after my wedding (i.e., on the day after the wedding night). Some girls were beating the duff at that time and were praising those of their elders who were martyred on the day of Badr. One of the girls began to say: "Among us is a Prophet (peace be upon him) who knows what will happen tomorrow." So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not say this, and say what you were saying before."
