Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim
Prohibition of placing hands on the back in prayer.
`Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) forbade praying with one's hands placed on the waist.
Prohibition of spitting in front of oneself in prayer.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saw spit in the mosque facing the qiblah, so he turned towards the people and said: "What is the matter with you that one of you stands facing his Lord, then spits in front of himself? Does any one of you like that someone should face him and then spit in front of him? When any one of you feels the urge to spit, he should spit to his left under his foot, and if there is no place, then he should do like this (the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, demonstrated this action)." Qasim (who is the narrator of this hadith) stated that he spat in his garment and then rubbed that part of the garment together.
Yawning in prayer and restraining it.
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you yawns during prayer, he should try to restrain it as much as possible. For indeed, the Shaytan enters (to cast doubts in the heart and make one forget the prayer). In another narration, it is mentioned: (When yawning) he should place his hand over his mouth. For indeed, the Shaytan (sometimes in the form of a fly or insect) enters (or in reality, the Shaytan enters, and this is correct).
Permissibility of carrying children during prayer
Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) leading the people in prayer, and Umamah bint Abi Al-As (may Allah be pleased with her), his granddaughter, was on his shoulder (she was the daughter of his daughter Sayyidah Zainab, may Allah be pleased with her). When he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would bow in ruku', he would put her down, and when he stood up from prostration, he would lift her onto his shoulder again.
Touching pebbles to straighten them during prayer
Sayyiduna Mu’ayqib (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding leveling the pebbles at the place of prostration, that if there is a need, one should do it only once.
Rubbing spit with one's shoe
`Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Shikhkhir رضي الله عنه says that I prayed with the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم, he spat, then rubbed it into the ground with his shoe.
Tying hair during prayer
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he saw Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Harith praying with his hair tied in a knot, so Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) began to untie his knot. When he finished the prayer, he asked, "Why did you touch my head?" Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever prays with his hair tied in a knot, it is as if he prays with his private parts uncovered."
Praying when food is present
Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When the time for prayer approaches and food is also served in front of you, then eat the food before the Maghrib prayer, and do not hasten towards the prayer leaving the food (because the heart will remain attached to the food, and there are other wisdoms as well).
Forgetting in prayer and the ruling of prostration for it
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you is uncertain in his prayer (about how many rak'ahs he has prayed) and does not know whether he has prayed three or four, then he should dispel the doubt and act upon what he is certain of. Then, before saying the salam, he should perform two prostrations. Now, if he has prayed five rak'ahs, these two prostrations will make it six rak'ahs, and if he has completed four, then by these two prostrations dust will be thrown in the face of Satan.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Zuhr or Asr prayer, and after praying two rak‘ahs, he ended the prayer with salam. Then he came to a piece of wood that was fixed in the mosque towards the qiblah and stood by it, leaning against it in anger. At that time, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna ‘Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him) were also present in the congregation. Both of them, out of fear, did not speak, and the hasty people left saying that the prayer had been shortened. Then a man, who was called Dhu’l-Yadayn (the one with two hands—although everyone has two hands, but his hands were long, so he was given this name), stood up and said,“O Messenger of Allah! Has the prayer been reduced or did you forget?”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), upon hearing this, looked to his right and left and said,“What does Dhu’l-Yadayn say?”The people said,“O Messenger of Allah, he is speaking the truth; you have only prayed two rak‘ahs.”Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed two more rak‘ahs and ended the prayer with salam. Then he said takbir and performed sajdah, then said takbir and raised his head, then said takbir and performed sajdah, then said takbir and raised his head. (Muhammad bin Sirin) said that ‘Imran bin Husayn narrated this to me and said that (at the end) he ended with salam.
