Kissing while fasting.
It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while in the state of fasting, would kiss (his wives) and embrace them (i.e., hold them close). But the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had the greatest control over his desires among all of you.

When night comes and the sun sets, break the fast.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey in the month of Ramadan. When the sun had set, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O so-and-so! Dismount and mix sattu (barley drink) for us." He said, "O Messenger of Allah! It is still daytime." (That is, this companion thought that when the redness after sunset disappears and night comes, then it is time, although this is incorrect.) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again said, "Dismount (from the camel) and mix sattu for us." Then he dismounted, mixed sattu, and brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who drank it. Then he gestured with his hand and said, "When the sun sets on this side (i.e., in the west) and night comes from this side (i.e., from the east), the fasting person should break his fast."

It is narrated from Abu Atiyyah that he said: I and Masruq went to Umm al-Mu'minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), and Masruq said to her: O Umm al-Mu'minin! Among the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), there are two persons who do not fall short in goodness and virtue. One of them breaks his fast at the earliest time and also prays at the earliest time, while the other delays both breaking the fast and the prayer. Umm al-Mu'minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: Who is the one who breaks his fast early and prays at the earliest time? We said: He is Abdullah (ibn Mas'ud) (may Allah be pleased with him). Umm al-Mu'minin said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do the same.

Prohibition of continuous fasting (wisal).
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade continuous fasting (wisal), so a man said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! You yourself observe wisal." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Which one of you is like me? I spend the night while my Lord feeds me and gives me drink." Yet the people did not refrain from wisal (this was due to the perfect love and obedience of the companions of the Messenger of Allah, and they understood this prohibition as being out of compassion), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) observed wisal with them for one day, then for another day (he also observed wisal), then they saw the moon. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If the moon had not appeared, I would have continued wisal for longer." (And the Prophet's saying this was by way of reprimand and rebuke, when they did not refrain from wisal.)

Permission to fast or break fast while traveling.
Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) traveled during Ramadan and observed the fast until he reached the place of Usfan. Then he (peace be upon him) asked for a bowl, in which there was something to drink, and he (peace be upon him) drank it during the day so that everyone could see. He continued to break the fast until he reached Mecca. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) both observed the fast and broke it, so whoever wishes may fast and whoever wishes may break the fast.

Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out towards Makkah in the year of the conquest of Makkah during Ramadan and he was fasting, until he reached (the place) of Kura‘ al-Ghamim, and the people were also fasting. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called for a cup of water, and he raised it until the people looked at him, then he drank it. (After that, the people also drank.) Then it was said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that some people were still fasting, so he said: "They are the disobedient ones, they are the disobedient ones."

Fasting while traveling is not righteousness.
Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey when he saw a crowd of people around a man, and they were shading him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, "What happened to him?" The people replied, "He is fasting." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "It is not righteousness to fast while traveling."

Do not criticize fasting or not fasting during travel.
`Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we fought in jihad with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on the sixteenth of Ramadan, and some of us were fasting, and some had broken their fast (were not fasting), and the fasting person did not find fault with the one who had broken his fast, nor did the one who had broken his fast find fault with the fasting person.

Reward for one who breaks fast while working during travel.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on a journey. Some of us were fasting and some were not. We halted at a place during intense heat. Among us, the one who had a sheet had the most shade, and there were some who were shielding themselves from the sun with their hands. All those who were fasting lay down at the place, and those who were not fasting stood up and set up tents and gave water to the camels. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Those who broke their fast today have taken much reward."
