Conditions of marriage.
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Of all conditions, the most deserving to be fulfilled are those conditions by which you have made private parts lawful for yourselves, that is, the conditions of marriage.

Marriage of a minor girl.
Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married me when I was six years old, and when I was sent to his house (rukhsati), I was nine years old. She says: Then we came to Medina, and there I had a fever for a month, and my hair reached my ears (i.e., it had fallen out during the illness). Then Umm Ruman (she is the mother of Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa, may Allah be pleased with her) came to me while I was on a swing, and my friends were with me. She called me, so I went to her, and I did not know why she had called me. Then she took my hand and made me stand at the door, and I was gasping (as someone does when out of breath) until my breathing calmed down. She took me into a house where there were some women of the Ansar, and they said: May Allah bless you and grant you a share of goodness. (In short) my mother handed me over to them. They washed my head and adorned me, and I did not feel any fear until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came at forenoon and I was handed over to him.

Freeing a slave woman and marrying her.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Khaybar during the expedition, and we performed the morning prayer near Khaybar in darkness. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted (his ride), and Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) also mounted, and I was riding behind Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Khaybar on his mount, and my knee was touching the thigh of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (because) the cloth had slipped from the thigh of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I was seeing the whiteness of his thigh. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the settlement (Khaybar), he proclaimed,“Allahu Akbar! Khaybar is destroyed,”meaning Allah is the Greatest and Khaybar is ruined. And he said,“When we descend in the courtyard (field) of a people (then the morning of those who were warned of Allah’s punishment is an evil one).”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) proclaimed this three times. Sayyiduna Anas said that the people (the Jews) were going about their work. (When they saw the army and heard the voice of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)), they said,“By Allah, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has arrived with his army.”Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we conquered Khaybar by force and the captives were gathered in one place. Then Sayyiduna Dihyah Kalbi (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said,“O Messenger of Allah! Give me a slave woman from among the captives.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Go and take any slave woman you wish.”He chose Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) (who was among the captives) and took her. Then a man came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said,“O Messenger of Allah, you have given Dihyah (may Allah be pleased with him) Safiyyah bint Huyayy, who is the daughter of the chief of Banu Qurayzah and Banu Nadir; she is only suitable for you.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Call Dihyah (may Allah be pleased with him) and that slave woman.”They brought Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her). When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), he said (to Dihyah (may Allah be pleased with him)),“Take any other slave woman besides Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her).”Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) freed Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) and married her. Thabit asked Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him),“O Abu Hamzah, how much did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) give her as mahr (dowry)?”Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) replied,“Her mahr was her own self, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) freed her and married her (this freedom was her mahr).”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was still on the journey when Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) adorned and prepared Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) and brought her to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). In the morning, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the state of a bridegroom. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Whoever has any food, let him bring it.”And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spread a cloth, so someone brought cheese, someone brought dates, and someone brought ghee. The Companions mixed all these things and made hasees (a dish) and ate it. This was the wedding feast (walimah) of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Marriage of mut’ah (temporary marriage).
Qais said: I heard Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) say: We used to participate in jihad with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and we had no women with us, so we said, "Should we not castrate ourselves?" But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from doing so. Then he permitted us to contract marriage with a woman for a specified period in exchange for a garment (i.e., temporary marriage, mut'ah). Then Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "O you who believe! Do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress. Verily, Allah does not love the transgressors." (Al-Ma'idah: 87)

Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We used to contract temporary marriage (mut'ah) during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) by giving a handful of dates and flour (as dowry) to women for several days, until Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) forbade it in the case of Amr bin Harith.

It is narrated from Rabi’ bin Sabrah that his father (may Allah be pleased with him) was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the expedition of the conquest of Makkah, and he said: We stayed in Makkah for fifteen (i.e., thirty days including nights and days), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted us to contract mut’ah with women. So I and a man from my tribe both went out, and I was more handsome than him, and he was closer to being unattractive. Each of us had a cloak, and my cloak was old, while my cousin’s cloak was new and fresh. When we reached the lower or upper side of Makkah, we met a woman who was like a young she-camel, with a long neck (i.e., a young, beautiful woman). So we said to her: Do you wish that one of us contracts mut’ah with you? She said: What will you give? So each of us spread out his cloak, and she began to look at both of them. My companion was staring at her (from her head to her hips), and she said: His cloak is old, and my cloak is new and fresh. Then she said two or three times: There is no harm in his cloak. So I contracted mut’ah with her. Then I did not leave her until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made mut’ah unlawful.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sabrah Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, that he was with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The Prophet said: "O people! I had permitted you to contract temporary marriage (mut'ah) with women, but now Allah Almighty has made it unlawful until the Day of Resurrection. So, whoever has any of these women (i.e., women of mut'ah) with him should let her go, and do not take back anything you have given them."
