Withdrawal (coitus interruptus) with wife or slave woman.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he states that a man asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "I have a slave woman with whom I practice coitus interruptus (withdrawal)." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If Allah intends to create someone, this (withdrawal) cannot prevent it." (A few days later) that man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "The slave woman I mentioned to you has become pregnant." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger."

Intercourse during breastfeeding (Gheela).
‘Sayyidah Judamah bint Wahb Asadiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), the sister of Sayyiduna ‘Ukkashah, says: I went with some people to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was saying: I intended to prohibit ghīlah, but then I saw that the people of Rome and Persia practice ghīlah and it does not harm their children. Then the Companions asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about ‘azl (withdrawal), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is a hidden“wa’d”(i.e., it is secretly burying the child alive).

Intercourse with pregnant slave women.
Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he passed by the door of a tent and saw a woman there whose time of childbirth was near. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,“Perhaps the man (with whom she is) intends to have intercourse with her?”The people replied,“Yes.”The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,“I wished to curse him with such a curse that would remain with him till the grave. How can he be the heir of that boy, when she is not lawful for him? And how can he make that boy a slave, when he is not lawful for him?”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent an army towards Autas on the day of Hunain. They confronted the enemy, fought them, prevailed over them, and captured their women. Some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) disliked having relations with them because their husbands, who were polytheists, were still alive. Then Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: "Forbidden are women who are married, except those whom your right hands possess" (An-Nisa: 24), meaning that when their waiting period ('iddah) has passed, they are lawful for you.

Allocating nights among wives.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had nine wives, and when he would take turns among them, he would come to the first wife on the ninth day. (For this reason) it was the custom of the wives that whichever house the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in, they would all gather in that house. One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the house of Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), and Umm al-Mu’minin Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) came, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached out his hand towards her. So (Aisha) said, "This is Zainab." Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) withdrew his hand, and a dispute began between Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa and Zainab (may Allah be pleased with them both), until their voices were raised and the call to prayer was made. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by them and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Go out for the prayer and put dust in their mouths." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out, and Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Now when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has finished the prayer, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) will come and be angry with me." Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished the prayer, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to them and scolded them harshly and said, "Do you do such a thing (i.e., do you shout and raise your voice in front of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him)?"

Spending the night with virgin and non-virgin wives.
Narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married her, he stayed with her for three days and then said: "You are not insignificant to your husband. If you wish, I will stay with you for a week, and if I stay with you for a week, then I will stay with each of my other wives for a week (and then after all of them, your turn will come again)."

`Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when (a man) marries a virgin and he already has a previously married woman in his marriage, then he should stay with the virgin for seven days (and after that, he should assign turns). And when he marries a previously married woman while he already has a virgin, then he should stay with her for three days. Khalid (the narrator of the hadith) said: If I say that this narration is marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet), then that would also be true, but Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) used these words and said: This is the Sunnah.

A wife gifting her turn to another wife.
‘Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I did not see any woman whom I wished to be in her body more than Saudah (may Allah be pleased with her); she was a quick-tempered woman. Then when she became old, she gave her turn to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have given my turn to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would stay with Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) for two days, one for her own turn and one for the turn of Saudah (may Allah be pleased with her).

Not allocating turns among some wives.
‘Ata says: We attended the funeral of Umm al-Mu’minin Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) at Sarf with Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Be mindful that she is the purified wife of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When you lift her blessed bier, do not shake or jostle it, and carry it with great gentleness. And that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had nine purified wives, of whom eight had an assigned turn and one did not. ‘Ata said: The one for whom there was no assigned turn was Umm al-Mu’minin Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her). (This is the narrator’s error; the correct view is that Umm al-Mu’minin Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) gifted her turn to Umm al-Mu’minin ‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), as mentioned in the narration above.)

If a man is attracted to a woman, he should go to his wife.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a strange woman. He (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Umm al-Mu'mineen Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) and she was rubbing leather (to dye it) at that time. He (peace and blessings be upon him) fulfilled his need (sexual intercourse) and then came out and said: Verily, a woman comes in the form of Satan and goes in the form of Satan. (That is, seeing her arouses satanic thoughts.) So when any of you sees (a strange) woman (and satanic thoughts arise), he should go to his wife; by this action, the corrupt thoughts in his heart will go away.
