Prohibition of marriage and proposal during ihram.
It is narrated from Nabiya bin Wahb that Umar bin Ubaidullah intended to marry his son Talha bin Umar to the daughter of Shaiba bin Jubair. So he sent a messenger to Aban bin Uthman, who was the Amir of Hajj at that time, so that he would also come (at the time of the marriage). So Aban came and said that I heard Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A Muhrim (one who has entered the state of Ihram for Hajj or Umrah) should neither marry himself, nor arrange the marriage of another, nor propose for marriage.

She replied, "The dowry of the wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was twelve uqiyah and one nash." (She) asked, "Do you know the amount of a nash?" Abu Salamah says, "I said, I do not know." She said, "It is half an uqiyah. This totals five hundred dirhams, and this was the dowry of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for his wives."

Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw a trace of yellow color on Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: "What is this?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah! I have married a woman for a dowry of a date stone's weight of gold." So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "May Allah bless you. Give a wedding feast, even if it is with only one goat."

Marriage for teaching the Quran.
Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a woman came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said,“O Messenger of Allah! I have come to offer myself to you (as a wife).”(This refers to the verse:“If a believing woman offers herself to the Prophet, and the Prophet wishes to marry her, this is only for you and not for the (rest of) believers.”And from this, the permissibility of such a gift is established only for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). (Al-Ahzab: 50)) Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at her from top to bottom and then lowered his blessed head. When the woman saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had not made any decision regarding her, she sat down. Then a companion stood up and said,“O Messenger of Allah! If you have no need of her, then marry her to me.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Do you have anything (to give as a dowry)?”He replied,“O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, I have nothing.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Go to your family and see if you can find something.”He went and returned and said,“By Allah, I found nothing.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said again,“Go and look, even if it is an iron ring.”He went and returned and said,“By Allah, O Messenger of Allah! Not even an iron ring, but this is my lower garment, I will give half of it to her.”The narrator, Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him), said that the poor man did not even have an upper garment. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“What will she do with your lower garment? If you wear it, she will have nothing of it, and if she wears it, you will have nothing of it.”Then that man (disappointed) sat down, and after sitting for a long time, he stood up. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him turning away, he ordered him to be called. When he came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Do you know any part of the Qur’an?”He said,“I know such and such surahs,”and he counted them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“Can you recite them by heart?”He replied,“Yes.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Go, I have married her to you in exchange for the Qur’an you know (i.e., teach her these surahs, this will be your dowry).”

About Allah’s saying:“You may defer whom you will...”
Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I used to feel great jealousy towards those women who would offer themselves to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And I used to say: How does a woman offer herself? Then when this verse was revealed:“O Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)! You may put off whom you please of them, and you may take to yourself whom you please, and whom you desire of those whom you had set aside, there is no blame on you”__QUR_N__, I said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): By Allah, I see that your Lord hastens to fulfill your desires.

Walima (wedding feast) in marriage.
Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give a better and more generous wedding feast (walima) on the occasion of marrying any of his wives than he did for Umm al-Mu'mineen Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her). So Thabit Banani asked, "What did he (peace and blessings be upon him) serve at the walima?" He replied, "He (peace and blessings be upon him) served meat and bread, until the people ate to their fill and food was left over."
