Virtues of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas.
‘Mus’ab bin Sa’d narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that’ several verses of the Qur’an were revealed about him. He says that his mother had sworn that she would never speak to him until he left his religion (i.e., Islam). And she would neither eat nor drink. She said,“Allah Almighty has commanded you to obey your parents, and I am your mother, and I command you to do this.”Then for three days she remained like this, eating and drinking nothing, until she fainted. Finally, one of her sons, whose name was ‘Ammarah, stood up and gave her water to drink. Then she began to curse Sayyiduna Sa’d, so Allah the Exalted revealed these verses in the Noble Qur’an:“And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents”(__QUR_N__) (Al-‘Ankabut: 8),“But if they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them (i.e., do not commit shirk), but accompany them in this world with appropriate kindness”(__QUR_N__) (Luqman: 5).

And once, a large amount of war booty came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and among it was a sword. I took it and brought it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said,“O Messenger of Allah! Please give me this sword as a gift, as you know my situation.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Put it back where you took it from.”I went and intended to put it back in the pile of war booty, but my heart reproached me, so I returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said,“Please give me this sword.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sternly said,“Put it back where you took it from.”Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse:“They ask you about the spoils of war”(__QUR_N__) (Al-Anfal: 1).

Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I became ill, so I sent for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He came, and I said,“Allow me to distribute my wealth to whomever I wish.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not permit it. I said,“Then may I give away half my wealth?”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not permit it. I said,“Then may I give away a third of my wealth?”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. Then it was established that giving away a third of one’s wealth is permissible.

Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Once I went to some people among the Ansar and Muhajirin, and they said,“Come, we will give you food and wine,”and at that time wine had not yet been forbidden. I went with them to a garden, where the meat of a camel’s head was roasted, and a waterskin of wine was placed. I ate the meat and drank the wine with them. There, the topic of the Muhajirin and Ansar came up, so I said,“The Muhajirin are better than the Ansar.”A man took a bone from the jaw and struck me with it, injuring my nose. I reported this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse because of me:“Wine, gambling, idols, and divining arrows are all filth and the work of Satan”(__QUR_N__) (Al-Ma’idah: 90).

Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were six men with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The polytheists said,“Drive these people away from you; they will not dare to confront us.”Among those people were myself, Ibn Mas’ud, a man from Hudhail, Bilal, and two others whose names I do not mention. Whatever Allah willed came to your heart, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke to himself inwardly. Then Allah revealed this verse:“Do not drive away those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His pleasure.”(__QUR_6:52__)

Virtues of Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah.
`Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the people of Najran came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Send to us a trustworthy person." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I will surely send to you a trustworthy person. Indeed, he is trustworthy, indeed, he is trustworthy." The narrator said that the people waited to see whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would send, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah.

Virtues of Hasan and Husayn.
Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I led the white mule on which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) were riding, until I brought them to the Prophet’s chamber. One of these grandsons was in front of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the other was behind him.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at a certain time during the day, and neither did he speak to me nor did I speak to him (that is, we walked in silence), until we reached the market of Banu Qaynuqa. Then he returned and came to the house of Sayyidah Fatimah al-Zahra (may Allah be pleased with her) and asked, "Is the child here? Is the child here?"—meaning he was asking about Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him). We thought that his mother had kept him back to bathe him, clean him, and put a fragrant necklace on him, but shortly after, he came running, and the two embraced each other (that is, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and Sayyiduna Hasan, may Allah be pleased with him). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! I love him, so You love him, and love the one who loves him."

Virtues of Fatimah al-Zahra, daughter of the Prophet.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a marriage proposal to the daughter of Abu Jahl, while the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), was in his marriage. When Sayyidah Fatimah az-Zahra (may Allah be pleased with her) heard this news, she came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "People say about you that you do not get angry for the sake of your daughters, and here is Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) who is going to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl." Sayyiduna Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited the testimony of faith and then said, "I married my daughter (Sayyidah Zaynab, may Allah be pleased with her) to Abul-As ibn Rabi', and he spoke to me truthfully. And Fatimah bint Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is a part of my flesh, and I dislike that people put her to trial (meaning, if Ali marries again, perhaps Fatimah, out of jealousy, might say something against her husband or disobey him and become sinful). By Allah! The daughter of the Messenger of Allah and the daughter of the enemy of Allah will not be together with one man." Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) abandoned the proposal (i.e., he gave up the intention to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl).

‘Mother of the Believers, Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that all the pure wives (may Allah be pleased with them) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were with him (during his illness), there was no wife who was not present, when suddenly Sayyida Fatimah al-Zahra (may Allah be pleased with her) came, and she walked exactly as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to walk. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw her, he said,“Welcome,”and said,“Welcome, my daughter.”Then he made her sit on his right or left side, and whispered something in her ear, so she wept greatly. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw her in this state, he again whispered something in her ear, so she laughed. I said to her,“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has especially confided something to you, yet you weep.”When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, I asked her,“What did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say to you?”She replied,“I am not one to disclose the secret of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).”When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, I made her swear by the right I had over her and said,“Tell me what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to you.”She said,“Now, indeed, I will tell you. The first time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) whispered in my ear that Jibreel (peace be upon him) used to review the Qur’an with me once every year or twice, and this year he reviewed it twice, and I think that my (time to depart from this world) is near. So fear Allah and be patient, for I am the best forerunner for you. Hearing this, I began to weep as you saw. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me weeping, he again whispered to me and said, ‘O Fatimah! Are you not pleased that you will be the leader of the women of the believers or the women of this Ummah?’ Hearing this, I laughed as you saw.”

Virtues of the Prophet's family (Ahl al-Bayt).
‘Mother of the Believers, Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out in the morning and he was wrapped in a cloak on which there were designs of camel saddles or pots. In the meantime, our master Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) came, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took him under the cloak. Then our master Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) came, so he was also included in it. Then Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (may Allah be pleased with her) came, so she was also included with them. Then our master Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came, so he was also included, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Allah only wishes to remove impurity from you, O people of the household, and to purify you thoroughly.”(Al-Ahzab: 33). (This does not mean that the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) are not his household, as is the belief of the Shia; rather, in reality, the household primarily refers to the wives, as the context of the verse also indicates. Along with them, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also included Ali, Fatimah, and Hasan and Husain (may Allah be pleased with them all).)

Yazid bin Hayan says: I, Husain bin Sabrah, and Umar bin Muslim went to Sayyiduna Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him). When we sat with him, Husain said,“O Zaid! You have attained great virtue. You saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), heard his hadith, participated in jihad with him, and prayed with him. You have earned much reward. Narrate to us some hadith that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).”He said,“O my nephew! I have grown very old and much time has passed, and some things which I used to remember from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) I have forgotten. Accept whatever I narrate, and do not trouble me for what I do not narrate.”Then Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up one day to deliver a sermon at a place called Khumm, between Makkah and Madinah, at the water of Khumm. He praised Allah and glorified Him, and gave admonition and advice. Then he said,“After this, O people! I am a human being. Soon the messenger of my Lord (the angel of death) will come to me and I will accept (his call). I am leaving among you two weighty things. The first is the Book of Allah, in which is guidance and light. So hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it firmly.”Thus, he encouraged adherence to the Book of Allah. Then he said,“The second thing is my Ahl al-Bayt (household). I remind you of Allah regarding my Ahl al-Bayt, I remind you of Allah regarding my Ahl al-Bayt, I remind you of Allah regarding my Ahl al-Bayt,”three times. Husain asked,“O Zaid! Who are the Ahl al-Bayt of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? Are his noble wives not among the Ahl al-Bayt?”Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“The noble wives are also among the Ahl al-Bayt, but the Ahl al-Bayt are those upon whom zakat is forbidden.”Husain asked,“Who are they?”Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“They are the descendants of Ali, Aqeel, Ja’far, and Abbas.”Husain asked,“Is charity forbidden for all of them?”Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“Yes.”

Virtues of the Prophet's wife Aisha.
Narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I saw you in a dream for three nights, when an angel brought you to me in a piece of white silk and said to me, "This is your wife." I uncovered your face and it was you. I said, "If this dream is from Allah, then it will happen as such (i.e., this woman will be given to me if there is no other interpretation of this dream)."
