Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim
Virtues of Umm Ayman, mother of Usamah ibn Zayd.
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) after the passing of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Come with us to visit Umm Ayman, as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit her." When we reached her, she began to weep. Both companions said to her, "Why are you weeping? Whatever is with Allah, the Majestic and Glorious, for His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is better for him." Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "I do not weep because I am unaware of this, but I weep because the revelation from the sky has now ceased." Upon her saying this, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) also began to weep, and so they wept along with her.
Virtues of Zayd ibn Harithah.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: We used to call Zaid bin Harithah as Zaid bin Muhammad (because the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم had called him his adopted son), until it was revealed in the Qur'an: "Call them by (the names of) their fathers; that is more just in the sight of Allah." (Al-Ahzab: 5).
Virtues of Zayd ibn Harithah and Usamah ibn Zayd.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, while he was on the pulpit: "If you find fault with his leadership (by this he meant Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid, may Allah be pleased with him), then indeed you had also found fault with his father's (Zaid's) leadership before this. By Allah! His father was worthy of leadership and was the dearest of all people to me. And by Allah! He (i.e., Usama) is also worthy of leadership, and by Allah! After him, Usama is the dearest of all people to me. Therefore, I advise you to treat Usama well, for he is one of the blessed among you."
Virtues of Bilal ibn Rabah, freed slave of Abu Bakr.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Bilal after the morning prayer: "O Bilal! Tell me about the deed you have done in Islam for which you have the greatest hope of reward, for I heard the sound of your footsteps ahead of me in Paradise last night." Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "I have not done any deed in Islam for which I have greater hope of benefit except that whenever I perform ablution, whether by night or by day, I pray as much as Allah has destined for me with that ablution."
Virtues of Salman, Suhayb, and Bilal.
Narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Aidh bin ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Salman, Suhaib, and Bilal (may Allah be pleased with them) were sitting among some other people when Sayyiduna Abu Sufyan came to them. They said,“The swords of Allah did not strike the neck of Allah’s enemy at their proper time (i.e., this enemy of Allah was not killed).”Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“Do you say such things about the elder and chief of Quraysh?”(Sayyiduna Abu Bakr said this out of consideration, lest Abu Sufyan become displeased and not accept Islam.) Then he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“O Abu Bakr! Perhaps you have angered those people (i.e., Salman, Suhaib, and Bilal, may Allah be pleased with them)? If you have angered them, then you have angered your Lord.”Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) went to those people and said,“O my brothers! Did I anger you?”They replied,“O our brother! No, may Allah forgive you.”
Virtues of Anas ibn Malik.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that my mother brought me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and had torn her shawl or scarf into two parts, making a lower garment for me from one half and an upper garment from the other half. She said, "O Messenger of Allah! This Anas is my little son; I have brought him to you to serve you. Please pray for him." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Allah! Increase him in wealth and children." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says, "My wealth is abundant and today my sons and grandsons are more than a hundred." (__QUR_N__, __XREF_N__, __REF_N__)
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was passing by when my mother, Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her), heard your (peace and blessings be upon him) voice and said, "May my parents be sacrificed for you (peace and blessings be upon him), this is little Anas." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made three supplications for me. Two of them I have received in this world, and I hope for the third in the Hereafter.
Thabit narrates from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I was playing with (my peers) children when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me, he greeted us with salam and sent me for some task. I went late to my mother, so my mother asked, "Why were you late?" I said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me for a task." She said, "What was the task?" I said, "It is a secret." My mother said, "Do not disclose the secret of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to anyone." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Allah, if I were to tell that secret to anyone, O Thabit! I would have told you."
Virtues of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, Asma bint Umays, and their companions on the ship.
Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were in Yemen when news reached us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had left Makkah. So we also set out to migrate towards him (peace be upon him). I and my two brothers—one was Abu Burdah and the other Abu Ruhm—I was the youngest of them, and fifty-three or fifty-two, or he said, a little over fifty men from my people came with us. Sayyiduna Abu Musa says: We all boarded a ship. By coincidence, this ship took us to the land of Abyssinia, to the king Najashi. There we met Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) ibn Abi Talib and his companions. Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has sent us here and ordered us to stay here, so you also stay with us. So we stayed with them. Then we all set out together and reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he had already conquered Khaybar. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted us a share from the spoils of that place, and no one who was absent from the battle of Khaybar received a share except for the people of our ship. And some people began to say to us (i.e., the people of the ship) that in migration, we have preceded you. And Sayyidah Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her), who had come with us, went to meet Umm al-Mu'mineen Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she too had migrated with the emigrants to the land of Najashi. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Umm al-Mu'mineen Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) while Sayyidah Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) was present with her. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) and asked: Who is this? Umm al-Mu'mineen Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: This is Asma bint Umais. So he said: The one who went to the land of Abyssinia and has now come by sea? Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: Yes, I am she. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We have preceded you in migration, therefore we have more right to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) than you. Hearing this, she became angry and said: "O Umar! By Allah, never! You have lied. You were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), among you the hungry were fed and your ignorant were advised, and we were in a distant land, the land of enemies, Abyssinia, and all our hardships were in the way of Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). By Allah! Food and drink are forbidden to me until I mention your words to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). We were harmed and were always in fear. Soon I will mention this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I will ask him, and by Allah, I will neither lie nor deviate nor say more than this." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, Sayyidah Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has said such and such. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No one has more right than you. For Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and his companions have one migration, and you, the people of the ship, have two migrations (one from Makkah to Abyssinia and the other from Abyssinia to Madinah Tayyibah). Sayyidah Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I saw Abu Musa and the people of the ship coming to me in groups and listening to this hadith. And there was nothing in the world more pleasing or greater to them than this statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Abu Burdah said that Sayyidah Asma said: I saw Abu Musa wanting to hear this hadith from me again and again (out of happiness).
Virtues of Abdullah ibn Ja'far ibn Abi Talib.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would return from a journey, he would meet the people. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far says that once he met me and Hasan or Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) seated one of us in front of him and one behind him, until we came to Madinah.
