It is narrated from Musa bin Talha (may Allah have mercy on him) that I went with my father to my mother. My respected father entered, so I also entered. He turned towards me and pushed me in the chest with his hand until I fell back. Then he said: Do you enter without permission?

It is narrated from Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) that I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Should I also seek permission before entering upon my sister? He replied: Yes! I repeated the question and said: My two sisters are under my guardianship, and I am the one who bears their expenses, should I still seek permission before entering upon them? He said: Yes, seek permission from them as well. Do you like to see them naked? Then he recited this verse: «يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لِيَسْتَأْذِنْكُمُ الَّذِينَ مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا الْحُلُمَ مِنْكُمْ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ مِنْ قَبْلِ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ وَحِينَ تَضَعُونَ ثِيَابَكُمْ مِنَ الظَّهِيرَةِ وَمِنْ بَعْدِ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ ثَلَاثُ عَوْرَاتٍ لَكُمْ» [سورہ النور: 58] "O you who believe! Let those whom your right hands possess and those among you who have not reached puberty ask your permission (before coming to you) on three occasions: before the dawn prayer, and while you put off your clothes at noon, and after the night prayer. These are three times of privacy for you." He said that they are only commanded to seek permission during these three times of privacy. The command of Allah, the Exalted, is: «وَإِذَا بَلَغَ الْأَطْفَالُ مِنْكُمُ الْحُلُمَ فَلْيَسْتَأْذِنُوا كَمَا اسْتَأْذَنَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ» [سورہ النور: 59] "And when your children reach puberty, let them ask permission as those before them asked permission." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Therefore, seeking permission is obligatory. Ibn Jurayj narrated this addition: (Seeking permission is obligatory) for all people.

It is narrated from Ubaid bin Umair (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter upon Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), but due to some engagement, he did not grant permission, so Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) returned. When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) became free, he said: I heard the voice of Abdullah bin Qais, allow him to come in. It was said: He has gone back. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) called for him, so he said: We were commanded regarding this matter. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Bring evidence (a witness) for this matter (that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, gave this command), so he went to the gathering of the Ansar and asked them. They said: Our young master Abu Sa'id Khudri will testify to your statement, so they brought Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Did this command of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remain hidden from me? The buying and selling in the market distracted me, meaning that going for trade caused it to remain hidden from me.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man looked into the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) through a hole in the door, while the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had a wooden comb in his hand with which he was scratching his head.
