Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the Haruriyyah sect rebelled, they were all cut off. I said to them: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made a treaty with the polytheists at the place of Hudaybiyyah, so he said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Ali! Write: This is the agreement according to which Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), has made peace." The polytheists of Quraysh said: If we considered you to be the Messenger of Allah, we would never fight you. Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ali! Erase it. O Allah! You know that I am Your Messenger. Ali! Erase it and write: This is the agreement which Muhammad bin Abdullah has made." I said to the Khawarij: By Allah! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was better than Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he erased his own name, but by erasing it from the document, he did not cease to be a Prophet. Have I come out of this (i.e., am I free from blame)? The people said: Yes!

However, the oath is upon the defendant."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding the interpretation of the Quranic verse: «﴿لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ﴾ [القيامة: 16] » "Do not move your tongue quickly," that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to feel some difficulty at the time of the revelation of the divine message, and in order to preserve the revelation, he would keep moving his lips. Saying this, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to his student Sa'id bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him), "I will show you how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to move his lips," and then his student Sa'id bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) imitated this in front of his own student. In any case, upon this, the following verse was revealed: «﴿لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ o إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ o فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ o ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ﴾ [القيامة: 16-19] » "Do not move your tongue quickly; it is Our responsibility to gather this Quran in your chest and to make you recite it. So when We recite it, listen to it attentively and remain silent; then its explanation is also Our responsibility." After this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite it in the same way after Jibreel (peace be upon him) had departed, as Jibreel (peace be upon him) had recited it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent some of us young boys from Banu Abd al-Muttalib ahead from Muzdalifah, mounted on our own donkeys, and while striking our legs with his hand, he said: "Dear children! Do not stone the Jamrah Aqabah before sunrise." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: Now I do not think that any sensible person would stone before sunrise.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I once spent the night at the house of my maternal aunt, Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Maymunah bint Harith (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up during the night, relieved himself, then came and washed his face and hands and lay down again. After some of the night had passed, he woke up again, came to the water-skin, untied its string, and performed ablution thoroughly. Then he stood up to pray. I waited for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he would not see me. Then I stood up and did what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had done, and I came and stood on his left side. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took me by the ear and turned me, so I ended up on his right side. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to pray. The total number of rak‘ahs of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer was thirteen, including the two sunnah rak‘ahs of Fajr. After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) lay down and slept until the sound of his snoring could be heard. After a short while, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came and informed him of the prayer, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to lead the prayer and did not perform fresh ablution. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate in his prayer or prostration: «اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِي قَلْبِي نُورًا وَفِي بَصَرِي نُورًا وَفِي سَمْعِي نُورًا وَعَنْ يَمِينِي نُورًا وَعَنْ يَسَارِي نُورًا وَمِنْ فَوْقِي نُورًا وَمِنْ تَحْتِي نُورًا وَمِنْ أَمَامِي نُورًا وَمِنْ خَلْفِي نُورًا وَأَعْظِمْ لِي نُورًا» “O Allah! Place light in my heart, in my ears, in my eyes, on my right, on my left, in front of me, behind me, above me, and beneath me, and make me all light.”
