Thabit Banani, may Allah have mercy on him, says that I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, about the nabidh (fermented drink) of a pitcher, so he replied: "It is forbidden." I asked, "Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibit it?" He replied: "Yes, people say so."

If he does it a third time, then it is Allah's right to make him drink from the water of the river Khabal." The people asked, "What is the river Khabal?" He said: "It is where the pus of the people of Hell will be collected."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was returning from the Battle of Hunayn, on the way Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him about a vow from the time of ignorance which he had made regarding i'tikaf for one day. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to fulfill his vow, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) departed from there and sent with me the slave woman whom he had received in the Battle of Hunayn. I lodged her in the house of a villager. Suddenly, I saw that all the captives of the Battle of Hunayn were running away and saying that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had set them free. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also said to Abdullah, "Go and set her free." So I went and released that slave woman.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of the Qur'an is like that of a tied camel; if its owner keeps it tied, it remains under his control, but if he lets it loose, it runs away. Similarly is the example of the possessor of the Qur'an who recites it day and night."

This prophetic saying is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): It is not permissible to envy (feel jealous of) anyone except two persons: one is the person whom Allah has granted the wealth of the Qur'an and he remains engaged in its recitation day and night; and the other is the person whom Allah has granted wealth and property and He has enabled him to spend it in the path of truth.
