It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from the People of the Book came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! On the Day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty will hold all creatures on one finger, all the heavens on one finger, all the earths on one finger, all the trees on one finger, and all the moist soil on one finger, and He will say: I am the True King. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this and laughed so much that his blessed teeth became visible, and upon this Allah revealed this verse: «﴿وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللّٰهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ وَالْأَرْضُ جَمِيعًا قَبْضَتُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ . . . . .﴾» [الزمر: 67] "They did not appraise Allah with true appraisal as is His due. The whole earth will be in His grip on the Day of Resurrection . . . . . ."

Abu Aqrab says that once, during the month of Ramadan in the morning, I went to visit Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). I found him sitting on the roof of his house. I heard his voice saying: "Allah has spoken the truth and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has conveyed (the message)." I went to him and asked, "I heard you saying that Allah has spoken the truth and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has conveyed (the message). What does this mean?" He replied that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Laylat al-Qadr is in the middle of the last seven nights of Ramadan, and after this night, when the morning comes and the sun rises, it is completely clear, and it has no rays." I was just observing this, and I found it exactly as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said, so I said that Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth.
