Ja'far bin Umayyah Zumari says that once I set out on a journey to Syria with Ubaidullah bin Adi. When we reached the city of Homs, Ubaidullah said to me, "If you wish, let us go to Wahshi the Abyssinian and ask him about the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Hamza." I said, "Let us go." Sayyiduna Wahshi lived in Homs. We asked people for his address, and a person said, "He is sitting over there in the shade of his palace, like a large water-filled skin." We went to him and, upon reaching, greeted him with salam. Sayyiduna Wahshi replied to the salam. At that time, Ubaidullah was wrapped in a sheet in such a way that except for his eyes and feet, no part of his body was visible. Ubaidullah asked Sayyiduna Wahshi, "Do you recognize me?" Wahshi looked carefully and said, "By Allah, I do not know you, except that I know that Adi bin Khiyar married Umm al-Qital. Adi had a son from that woman who was born in Mecca. I searched for a wet nurse for that boy and took the boy along with wealth and gave him to her. Now, seeing your feet, I am reminded of that boy." Hearing this, Ubaidullah uncovered his face and said, "Please narrate the incident of Sayyiduna Hamza." Wahshi said, "Yes, the story is that in the Battle of Badr, Ta’ima bin Adi was killed by Hamza. Seeing this, my master Jubair bin Mut’im said, 'If you kill Hamza in revenge for my uncle, you are free on my behalf.' So, when the people of Quraysh set out in the year of Uhud, I also went with them to fight. After the ranks were set, Siba’ came out into the field and called out, 'Is there anyone who can face me?' Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib came out to face him and said, 'O Siba’, son of a woman who performs circumcision on women, do you oppose Allah and His Messenger?' Saying this, Sayyiduna Hamza attacked him and Siba’ was killed. Meanwhile, I was hiding behind a rock to kill Sayyiduna Hamza. When he came near me, I threw my spear, which struck him at the place of his genitals and came out from behind his buttocks. This is the story of the spear throw by which Sayyiduna Hamza was martyred. Then, when everyone returned, I also returned with them and started living in Mecca. When Islam spread in Mecca, I left Mecca. The people of Ta’if sent some envoys to the Messenger of Allah and said to me, 'The Prophet does not harm envoys; you go with them.' I went with the envoys and presented myself before the Prophet. He said, 'Are you Wahshi?' I replied, 'Yes.' He said, 'Did you kill Hamza?' I replied, 'Whatever news has reached you, that is the incident.' He said, 'Is it possible for you not to show me your face?' So I left from there. After the Prophet’s demise, when Musaylimah the Liar rebelled, I said, 'I will confront Musaylimah the Liar so that if I kill him, perhaps the debt of Sayyiduna Hamza’s martyrdom will be repaid.' So I went out with the people. Meanwhile, the incident of Musaylimah happened as it was destined—Muslims were victorious and Musaylimah was killed. Sayyiduna Wahshi says, 'I saw Musaylimah standing in a gap in the wall. At that time, Musaylimah’s complexion appeared somewhat ashen and his hair was completely disheveled. I threw the same spear at him as I had used on Sayyiduna Hamza, which struck him between the shoulders and passed through. Meanwhile, another Ansari man attacked and struck Musaylimah on the head with his sword and killed him.'"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wahshi bin Harb that a person submitted in the court of the Messenger: "We eat food but do not feel satisfied." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Perhaps you eat separately. Eat together and mention the name of Allah when you eat, there will be blessing in it."
