Alqamah narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and recited Surah Yusuf. Then a man said to him: "It was not revealed in this way." The narrator says: So Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "May you be ruined" (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words), "May you be destroyed! I have recited it before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: 'You have recited correctly.'" While both of them were still arguing, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) sensed the smell of wine from that man. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Do you drink wine and deny the Qur'an? I will certainly have you flogged." Then that man was flogged.
